If you had an issue with someone you should call your local hatzola office so they could deal with it. They’ll have an idea who was where.

Its very hard to give answers over the net like this but have you looked into

There’s a new yeshiva in Lakewood, Yeshiva D’Rabaynu Yitzchok Meir (Reb Sholmo Abramson is the Rosh Yeshiva). located at 613 Madison in Lakewood. They have less than 20 bocherim last I heard. I know the Rosh for many many years. I dont know if this is a fit because this is the internet and you cant give much info but its worth a shot.

What about Yeshiva Emek Yehoshua in Passaic (NOT to be confused with THE Passaic Yeshiva) ? The Rosh Yeshiva there is Reb Shia Buxbaum.

    Hatzlocha!

The author would have made a MUCH bigger roshem had the truth (if it is even true in the first place!) been told and REAL names used, ESPECIALLY the person who signed the letter.

I looked up the name and it seems this person never existed.

The reason they have had longevity is because they aren’t charging that much if anything for their services or lack thereof. Since they aren’t charging, the companies using their certification don’t realize the waste of using such a certification. If they were using a reliable hechsher, they’d see the increase in sales.

    Daas Yochid,

Your comment about Oreos is a bit off. I spoke to my friend and this is what he said….

The OU really doesnt want to deal with DE symbols as it is confusing to the consumer. The problem is that many people were hounding the OU about Oreo so they investigated and found it to be DE at worst.

Please understand, the OU contract with Nabisco is for the items to carry the OUD symbol. This means, if the company wants to reformulate and add milk to that formula, they may do so contractually without letting the OU know about that change ON THE CONDITION that the new oreo ingredient was already approved for use in that plant. Furthermore, there are times they would have to submit new labels for approval, however my friend was unsure if they would have to in such a case.

    Ahin Un OHare said:

OU tends to be very lenient in Kashrus supervision.

Example: The nearly 1,000 (!!!) Milchig coffee creamers that they certify are labeled NON-Dairy in large letters (based on some government rule), but the casein (cheese) ingredient is listed in fine print.

I have queried them on this, but have gotten evasive replies.

My Posek says this is a serious issue!!!

Far be it for me to say something about your posek but its clear he doesnt know about this issue and to say its a serious issue is completely and totally INCORRECT!

The FACT is that the govt doesnt treat Casein as dairy (Casein and caseinates are often found in foods that boldly proclaim themselves “nondairy.” This is simply a leftover from the old days, when dairyness was legally defined as containing milkfat), while the Torah does, because is comes from milk!

It is for that reason that “non dairy” creamers such as Carnation etc are CORRECTLY marked OUD.

Sometimes rabbonim need to investigate before making a claim that is false.

    Moshe5300,

Calm your liver! You weren’t relying on Rav Belsky ztl before either! Do you think the Rosh Yeshiva ztl went to all 7000+ plants across the world????? CERTAINLY NOT!

What you need to know is how the organization handles things so I will try and explain it based on how it was told to me. First of all, NOT everything is a shayala! 90% is common sense along with a knowledge of halocha which B’H the OU’s rabonim in the office and the field know. Second of all, IF there is a shayla someplace, they would refer to a database of shaylas which have been asked over the years to see if that shayla came up before and how they paskened. If there is an answer with a good tzushtel to this issue, they could go with it, if not, off to #3.

Third, the shayla would be posed to the OU poskim, which consisted of Rav Belsky ztl and yb’lch Rabbi Genack and Rav Hershel Shachter, g’dolim in shas and poskim. They would issue their p’sak. The Rosh HaPoskim didnt agree on everything however they held each other in the highest esteem. They would also try and work it out so that the Rov who “lost” would be happy with the way the issue was handled in the plants.

Dont worry, they are in good hands!

I will also point out that anyone who doesn’t think the OU is reliable is fooling themselves big time! I challenge you to walk into the OU office like I did when I had a meeting there or peek into their annual mashgiach meetings in Boro Park or Flatbush and continue spouting that utter narishkeit. You will be amazed and you will eat whatever covering you have on your cranium.

Not everything is a recall issue. In Poppy’s case of three years ago with the dairy sour cream flavor, that is NOT recallable because the ingredients CLEARLY list the dairy ingredient. WE NEED TO TAKE SOME RESPONSIBILITY TOO! We need to realize kashrus is a major nes taking place. Would you like to go to the European way where no one knows whats kosher and whats not UNLESS you have the booklet from each shtetel? Be happy with what you have !

I have also spoken to people in kashrus and they all said this is not a re-callable issue, however as Rabbi Genack noted, this is something to be looked into and policy should be enacted because of this. The company is NOT doing anything wrong because they are showing that those two items are kosher, they copied their Nutritional Declaration from the other packaging.

Kashrus agencies cannot act as the brains of the consumers. WE need to take some SELF responsibility too!

My bad. Agencies that are willing to comment on the reliability of other certifiers, don’t want to use the word acceptable, and they instead use the word recommended. This is for legal reasons going back to the Harold Sharfman days owning the KOAOA where he tried suing everyone and their mother for saying that the half moon k symbol was not acceptable. Granted once he died his son was able to steer the agency into acceptability and it was then purchased by the OU.

Bottom line is it’s a legalese thing.

    yitzy99,

the reason you don’t find CY gallons is because of a law that regulates the price of a gallon of milk, which currently in NJ is somewhere LESS than $4 a gallon. that law doesn’t apply to half gallons so the CY companies can have you pay $2.79 per half gallon ($5.58 gallon) and make money that way.

There is something in the law that allows you not to fall under the regulation IF you sell less than “X” amount of gallon containers which is why the “special” brands are priced high. If CY went to mostly gallons, they would fall into the regulations.

    zahavasdad,

I checked with my kashrus professional friend and he said that the person is VERY incorrect. The reason is because nowadays “cultures and starter distillates are added to the cream in order to provide flavor, texture etc., not to mention to MAKE it into butter and those items ARE dairy and need to be CY.”

    ABSOLUTELY NOT!

Our Torah SUPERSEDES any law put into place by any govt. It would be ASSUR for us to do something which is Assur even if the govt says to do it. The same is the other way, if the govt disallows a commandment, we cant lean on dina d’malchusa.

Don’t second guess chazal, our nevi’im, or any other gadol because that’s a BIGGER avayra than dina d’malchusa.

“Consider the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) report on year-end removal numbers for fiscal year 2013. ICE reported a total of 368,644 removals for the year (down considerably from the 409,949 removals reported the previous year).

    107.9 had the l’vayah live.

He was niftar about 6am eastern time. The l’vayah was about 5 hours later, which makes it 11a. If the l’vayah was here in the USA, there would be reason to perhaps stop learning and travel there but since it was in EY, what do you expect them to do, put up large speakers so everyone in Monsey/Lakewood could listen? The radio part, at least the part i heard online via 107.9 was BAD.

They gave better z’chusim for the niftar by sitting and learning than being m’vatel torah for all those hours.

I am confused. You are asking about a “prescription medication” as if you have never taken any “prescription medication” before. What is the difference between this or any other probably very treif “prescription medication?” If the doc prescribes it, take it! The only shayala would be if its not a prescription and you are taking it because of some “health” wacko who told you to take this cure all “medicine.”

I went into surgery weighing about 480. I lost 70# the first month and plateaued at 240. I gained back about 10-15% which is fairly normal. I could lose more if i wanted but I am happy here.

I had my pandelectomy about 5 years ago.

The most it hurt was that day. After that the pain was FAR less. I also didnt realize how unhealthy I was.

If you are severly overweight with no chance of losing weight via traditional diets, this is the way. Dont let anyone tell you its a cop out, because IT IS NOT!
