“roadblock” !?
reward (and punishment) has been a mainstay in the system of Chinuch that the Jewish People have used since their beginning. it is the primary system with which Hashem conducts the world.
is it the ideal method of Chinuch for the near-perfect person? no.
the desire to do Chesed, to do Hashems will is of course a nobler impetus, but its not the best or most efficient way for many children and stages of growth. of course the hope is that eventually, with proper instruction, encouragement and example we hope the ideal motivation will be achieved, but lets not throw out an extremely valuable technique.

YW Moderator-80Member“I think therefore I am”
A famous philosophical proof of existence based on the fact that someone capable of thought is alive, said by Descartes
YW Moderator-80Memberi barbecue…therefore i am
YW Moderator-80Memberit doesnt become “holy”
but a long tradition does give it a certain choshivus
YW Moderator-80Memberi dont see a good reason to remove it at this point
YW Moderator-80MemberJewishness
i think you have a point
YW Moderator-80Memberwhich game?
THE game!
man you must not know much about sports
YW Moderator-80Memberyou guys are wasting your time
right now im sitting in front of a 64 inch HD TV watching the game, drinking some brews with my best buds.
half time im gonna put some slabs of ribs on the grill, if my huge dog doesnt eat them first.
after the game i think ill sit and relax over a good game of poker while puffing on some cuban stogies, and sipping some fine brandy.
YW Moderator-80Memberi would recommend the braided cable stitch.
you could use the basic box stitch, but thats more girlish
YW Moderator-80Memberfollow the instructions
YW Moderator-80Membermore condescension:

for future reference, all-caps are not very popular here.
YW Moderator-80Membertchunos are inborn and cannot be changed. i dont know how to define tchunos exactly but they are personality types. whether a person is “firey” or placid for example.
middos are different. one is born with a propensity towards certain middos. generosity vs stinginess for example. but these are also influenced by the environment and can be changed with much work.
this is from the Rambam.
you can see tchunos in a child from the moment they are born.
YW Moderator-80Member1.An ounce of prevention is worth about 1/16 of a pound of prevention
2.An apple a day has lots of fiber and pectin
3.If you do that ONE more time you will have done it again
YW Moderator-80Memberi didnt realize it was about songs
i thought it was just “complete this phrase”
sorry
YW Moderator-80Memberim not in the NY or Yeshivish world
where i hang out, i cant be rigorous in the definition, but i thought it referred to a certain group of boys (almost always its boys) who have thrown away almost all elements of Judaism, left their home and parents, are always in trouble, spend a lot of time with goyim and girls, drugs, and frequently run afoul of the law.
i see now that this is not the mainstream usage of this phrase
YW Moderator-80Memberwe have a poster here with the name “ty”
i have been unable to figure out why so many posters keep referring to him
i finally got it
YW Moderator-80Memberi think my concept of OTD must be quite different from other posters here.
YW Moderator-80Memberevery single one that i know, and i know quite many, have very strong anger towards their parents, mingled with a significant element of “hatred”
they also love them as well
YW Moderator-80MemberDid ya hear the news? Guess Jeans went out of business!
You are the sun,you are very bright.
YW Moderator-80Memberno its not an issur
its an inyun, which varies from Rebbe to Rebbe, person to person, situation to situation.
YW Moderator-80Memberi didnt see that coming
otherwise i would have ducked
YW Moderator-80Memberahh, i see
i saw your mention of that but i thought the $2,000 was in addition to the winnings.
YW Moderator-80Memberthere is a duck sauce crisis in the orthodox Jewish community.
far too much of it is being used.
it makes everything very sweet
if i want sweet ill take a brownie, not a chunk of meat
its called duck sauce isnt it?
its not called all-purpose-spread-on-everything sauce is it?
save it for your duck recipes.
YW Moderator-80MemberOn Final Jeopardy, she bid the wrong amount. There is a method to figuring how much you should wager.
i didnt see the show, but doesnt it depend on how much you like gambling, and how much you like being assured of a certain amount of winnings?
she left with $11,000 or so right?
what would she have left with had she bet $4,999 and got the answer wrong?
YW Moderator-80Membermike did not like the way i edited his post so i deleted it instead, which is what should really have been done originally but i thought his general point could be discussed.
he also was upset because in my summary of his post i mentioned girls wearing pants. he did not specifically mention this issue in his post. my mistake. sorry
YW Moderator-80Memberin the good old days, among the Yidden, immorality, infidelity, “gayness” and crime were almost non-existent.
Torah and Mitzvohs were prized and respected. there was no reform or conservative or any other such organized kefira.
if you remember, and you must, that this world is fleeting, illusory and only a preparation for the True, Eternal Life, then those are the things that matter, not how efficient the hospitals were
YW Moderator-80Memberi like it “basic” too
but what exactly is “basic”
YW Moderator-80Membermike
whats your opinion on whether or not we should delete the unimportant cholent thread? is that more or less important than tznius?
YW Moderator-80Memberi cant believe i forgot the meat.
YW Moderator-80Memberwhat exactly does your mother put in?

potatoes?
beans?

YW Moderator-80Memberthe rest of the posts here will please concern themselves with the original posters question or related matters.
thank you
YW Moderator-80Memberhealth
again your baseless assumptions are wrong
it was not i who has been keeping a close watch on your posts in this thread.
had it been me i would have used harsher adjectives to describe your behavior.
YW Moderator-80MemberAre you honestly concerned with the fact that the school has appointed a biased professor, or that you disagree with the professor’s bias and would prefer your daughter not be subject to it?
the op was very clear that it was the latter
YW Moderator-80Memberdepends on what definition of dense you are referring to:
Density:
In topology and related areas of mathematics, a subset A of a topological space X is called dense (in X) if any point x in X belongs to A or is a limit point of A
Formally, a subset A of a topological space X is dense in X if for any point x in X, any neighborhood of x contains at least one point from A. Equivalently, A is dense in X if and only if the only closed subset of X containing A is X itself. This can also be expressed by saying that the closure of A is X, or that the interior of the complement of A is empty.
The density of a topological space X is the least cardinality of a dense subset of X.

YW Moderator-80Memberi think that was the name they gave to the original windows operating system till the Jewish inventor left the company:
DOS YUCHID
YW Moderator-80MemberWhy Focus? Because it’s the place where the sons raise meat.
then he should have named it: “Focal Point”
YW Moderator-80MemberIn fact, I could just as easily be a 80 year old grandmother, living in Ashdod, who happens to have a wacky sense of humor.
other than the location, we have good reason to believe this is the actual case
