If that’s the only reason – the girl is a fool. I’ve seen very few women taller than I, but I would never have rejected one for being too tall.
yaakov doeParticipantIn a ciy or through an open field?
yaakov doeParticipantThose that I’d invite don’t have internet and couldn’t Google address. If the simcha is at the Waldorf, an address isn’t necessary.
yaakov doeParticipantThe only ones I’ve seen are OU D. They come in large jars at Costco, Waldbaums, Pathmark.
yaakov doeParticipantNot libraries, but sushi is.
yaakov doeParticipantBROOKLYN!

June 30, 2014 8:43 pm at 8:43 pm in reply to: New Chovevei "Rabbi" is as Orthodox as His Wife #1021961yaakov doeParticipantAt least the 2 “rabbis” are of different genders. Im wonder if I ask a shailah of each, whould they agree on the answer. If the YCT grauate recognizes the ordination of a woman as a “rabbi”, isn’t something wrong the the “rabbis” that YCT is ordaining?
yaakov doeParticipantJTS was founded in 1886 by people who were observant and at one time in the 1920’s or 1930’s a merger with YU considered. Their movement didn’t seperate itsself from Yiddishkeit until the 1950’s when they issued a conservative psak allowing driving to their services on Shabbos, but forbiddiong any other use of cars on Shabbos. It’s been a downhill spiral from then with decreasing observance and acceptance of lifetyles contrary to halacha. The JTS faculty had many frum rabbonim at Heschel’s time.
If he were alive today he wouldn’t recognize what JTS, the Schecter schools or the conservative movement has become.
yaakov doeParticipantThere certainly are other ways to obtain food except possibly in times of war.
yaakov doeParticipantOnly after the 9 days!
yaakov doeParticipantYes, too tznius would be to wear that get up with only the eyeslits like the Moslem women do which some women in Israel have copied from them.
yaakov doeParticipantMoshe, a fine Egyptian name bestowed by a princess.
yaakov doeParticipantI ate of rectangular plates at a chassanah a few weeks ago and it made no difference to me. Some consider it more elegant, but for me it’s the taste that counts and as long as the plates are clean who cares about shape.
June 12, 2014 8:46 pm at 8:46 pm in reply to: Ketchup-lovers-and- haters alike, I have a question for you! #1019885yaakov doeParticipantKetchup is great on herring, lox, petcha, sweetbreads, chopped liver and kenadlach. And on Shevous cheesecake and blintzes.
yaakov doeParticipantBack in the “old country” such marriages were very common and most of us have great grandparents or great great grandparents who were married to cousins. Of course once they left the shetlach to the US it became much less common.
yaakov doeParticipantI know of a shul in Flatbush where 2 men attend every Shabbos, don’t bother opening sidurim and just sit at the table and talk the entire time. Until I saw this I didn’t know that men could talk as much as old women. My theory is that they go to shul to please their wives, with no thoughts off davening.
Their burdons of avairos will follow them to the olam emes.
yaakov doeParticipantHats Plus on Coney Island ave off of J
yaakov doeParticipantEretz Yisroel until we were taken in chains to Rome many years ago. From there we found our way to Eastern Europe and eventually Brooklyn USA.
yaakov doeParticipantOf course it’s possible. I assume none of them are Yiddin or they would have contacted us with tzadah appeals.
yaakov doeParticipantOver 12 of the “lost tribes” have been found over the years in places ranging from North America, Japan, India and Africa. Over the years they would be lost through intermarriages, even if they had originally settled in these places.
yaakov doeParticipantI’ve heard from reliable sources that the plane was hijacked by aliens from another planet and the passengers are now undergoing alien scientific testing. I can not confirm ate accuracy of this report.
April 24, 2014 2:44 am at 2:44 am in reply to: Whats coming to BP thats being advertised on all streetcorners? #1012439yaakov doeParticipantBreadberry, which is an odd name for a store, is going to open in the former auto repair place at the corner of 60th and 17th Ave. Boro Park now extends past 65th Street so there’s a need for another supermarket. I doubt that it will havevreasonable prices.
yaakov doeParticipantIn time for the morning Krias Shma
yaakov doeParticipantNot I. I’ve been looking forward to my crispy burned shmurah matzah for months. I doubt if those that eat that soft Yeminie matzah do it with the same gusto that we shmurah eaters do.
April 6, 2014 2:39 am at 2:39 am in reply to: Wife put houseplants in the chicken soup–WWYD #1111420yaakov doeParticipantrebyidd23 – why ask how old I am? I was told that’s not a polite question to ask of anyone.
April 4, 2014 1:59 am at 1:59 am in reply to: Wife put houseplants in the chicken soup–WWYD #1111414yaakov doeParticipantDid she use a lightbox to check for bugs?
Didn’t realize you had a wife.
yaakov doeParticipantBartenura Malvasia or Zakon Red muscatini – both around 5%. Kesser has an eminent dry meant for seder use.
yaakov doeParticipantI understand that last year the OU didn’t approve it because Rabbi Belsky considered it kitnios. Did Rabbi Belsky chgange his position on quinaoa?
yaakov doeParticipantWhich shmurah does COSTCO have for $15.99 lb? The cheapest I’ve seen so far is Tiferes made in the Ukraine.
yaakov doeParticipantThe chauffeur who’s paid with her fathers big bucks!
yaakov doeParticipantThere are some that are inferior such as those that push their baby carriages into ongoing traffic or talk on cell phones while doing that or while driving.
yaakov doeParticipantYes, I am. I have peyos down to my ankles and tzitzis down to my toes
March 18, 2014 12:12 pm at 12:12 pm in reply to: Good major in college for a bais yaakov girl #1008502yaakov doeParticipantHow about majorinng in shiduchim?
yaakov doeParticipantThey were abducted by aliens from Mars who were upset about our landing on their planet. Now the passengers and crew are being studdied by Martian scientists.
yaakov doeParticipantVeltz M – That’s one of the most brilliant observations that I’ve heard in a long time.
Popa – What bottles do they serve at your kiddush club? All over 18 tears, I hope. Open to new members?
yaakov doeParticipantMon is the ultimate filling for HaMONtashen. We don’t eat HaLEKVARtashen. It’s all about Hamon. There is no evil Halekvar in the Megillah
March 4, 2014 1:23 pm at 1:23 pm in reply to: maybe we all should stop getting drunk on purim #1056600yaakov doeParticipantSome would be bereft of all mitzvos it that were to happen.
yaakov doeParticipantAssuming that the 3 wives were at different times, did any leave over the incessant letter writing?
yaakov doeParticipantI find his letters long winded . If he wants his own column in the FJJ let him ask for one, but the long lettters each week are too much. If you can’t say it in 100 words – don’t!
yaakov doeParticipant3 wives is the ideal, because it now takes 3 incomes to get by.
yaakov doeParticipantHaven’t tried it, but I understand that it’s actually spray glue that’s used on the mouth. Has not been approved by the FDA for oral use.
February 11, 2014 10:02 pm at 10:02 pm in reply to: Everyone Must Answer: What Is YOUR Favorite Dish (food) #1184493yaakov doeParticipantBalvenie with kigel
yaakov doeParticipantProbably very difficult since you may have to drive a load of potatoes from Idaho to Georgia and pick up a load of peanuts going to Maine on a tight schedule and not drive more hours than the Federal law allows without sleep. Makes it a 7 day a week job at times. If you want to do long haul trucking, why not get in touch with Agriprocessers and ask about trucking their meat to New York from Iowa. They certainly know about Shabbos!
February 6, 2014 9:00 pm at 9:00 pm in reply to: What did people do before measuring cups were invented? #1004152yaakov doeParticipantThey estimated the amounts just like any serious cook does today. There where no Susie F cookbooks asking for 1/8 cup of pine nuts or 1/2 cup of pomegranate seeds or sundried tomatoes. Life anmd cooking were much simpler.
yaakov doeParticipantPopa – That kid really grew up quickly!
February 2, 2014 3:40 am at 3:40 am in reply to: The last thing I would think of is Mayim Acharonim #1001734yaakov doeParticipantSo what became of Kidor’s wife once he returned home?
yaakov doeParticipantnishtdayngesheft – That’s a great idea!
yaakov doeParticipant5537, well before all of you youngsters
yaakov doeParticipantWhere can I see this video? I haven’t seen Avi Weiss in over 40 years and wonder what he now looks like. He was a mainstream YU rabbi back then.
