Torah613TorahParticipantI agree with writersoul, CC men are awesome.
Torah613TorahParticipantThere are millions of Jewish charities. This board is not going to be very helpful for you. You need to talk to people in real life and request help. Get yourself on Medicaid or the equivalent and get help.
Torah613TorahParticipantSomeone once very obviously took my picture on the subway. I turned around and pretended it didn’t happen, but it scared me.
I would definitely not advise doing this for either gender. Either approach them or don’t approach them. But don’t take stalkerish pics.

Torah613TorahParticipantChofetz Chaim boys are the best in the world. They are great Talmidei Chachamim, Yarei Shamayim, kind, charismatic, organized, modest, accomplished, brilliant and do chesed with their families and the world.
I don’t know Ner Yisrael boys, but they are probably a close second.

November 19, 2013 10:41 pm at 10:41 pm in reply to: Positive reinforcement for good behaviors #988054Torah613TorahParticipantElementary school grades are worthless. Therefore, I plan to encourage my kids to do poorly in school.
Then, when they become teenagers, and it becomes important for them to do well to get into college, they’ll do well in order to rebel against me, and they’ll get into good colleges and fine jobs.
Torah613TorahParticipantlol
I’ll join too.
Torah613TorahParticipantPersonally, I get enough of a thrill out of crossing the street.

Torah613TorahParticipantYou shouldn’t eat pregnant peppers.
Torah613TorahParticipantHaving low self-esteem isn’t a problem and hating school isn’t a problem.
I hated school too and endured many years of it. You’ll survive. Make sure you’re good at something not school related that you can use to earn money as an adult, and you’ll be fine.
Torah613TorahParticipantI suggest Alpha or Mandy.
Torah613TorahParticipantIf at first you can’t fricasee, fry, fry a hen.

November 14, 2013 9:58 pm at 9:58 pm in reply to: Rabbi Avraham Twerski M.D. v.s. Rabbi Lazer Brody #987120Torah613TorahParticipantSyag: Who thinks they’re Shabtai Tzvi?
I hear both sides. People should try to deal with their problems and not just pop a pill every time they realize they’re not perfect. OTOH, medication make life easier for many people who would have a much harder time functioning without it.
I think the cutoff is: Are you working on your problem, or are you using the medication to cover up a problem? If the former, pills are good. The latter is dangerous and unhealthy.
Torah613TorahParticipantOOM: I’ve been missing you too. Let us know when you’re finished your doctorate. 🙂
Torah613TorahParticipantYou’re her friend, not her psychologist. I feel you should try to learn from her to be less selfish and be a real friend to her rather than yet another person who takes from her.
Torah613TorahParticipantPopa’s right. We marry younger and have a much smaller percentage of divorce. We have more similar backgrounds, beliefs, and goals; less or no baggage; and a stronger support system throughout our lives than people in the outside world.
Torah613TorahParticipantWrite something incredibly vague.

Would you treat her like a malkah and never cook and always praise her food and pay for cleaning help?
November 13, 2013 4:36 pm at 4:36 pm in reply to: Rabbi Avraham Twerski M.D. v.s. Rabbi Lazer Brody #987109Torah613TorahParticipantVery interesting thread.
Torah613TorahParticipantAhava, I’m so sorry to hear what you’re going through. You’re going through such a hard and challenging time, and things are just so hard right now, between pregnancy and avelus and being far from family and not having enough money. Hashem does hear your tefilos and no matter how badly you think you are doing ruchniyus wise, the fact that you managed to daven at all is amazing. You’re bringing life into the world and starting a Jewish family and doing it in a very difficult situation. You are a hero.
I don’t have any advice for you but it really does sound hard, and I hope and daven that things begin to work out for you for the good, that your husband finds a good parnasa soon and things begin to settle down.
