Are you kidding? I thought that baby fingers was because it is not tznius to think about “lady fingers”. You’re telling me that they are two distinct items?
squeakParticipantchuck, feel free to chime in but I think that his profession is given away already. I’ve only heard of one that is known to be deadly boring, yet those who pursue it speak of its hidden intrigue and fascinating work. And it ain’t what Joseph does.
squeakParticipantareivim, is this comment intended to tip me off to what I wrote that was so personal it had to be deleted? ‘cuz the post I was going to link to has disappeared.

squeakParticipantwe banished that possibility while you were away, thanks though
squeakParticipantLet me be more clear then.
I/we cannot decide to take someone off life support in any circumstance. If such a question arises, it is the duty of the next-of-kin to get a psak from a competent Rov. End of story.
I was talking about the issue that the world is facing about limited supply/unlimited demand for healthcare. My point was (is) that there will come a point where rationing will be a forefront issue, instead of a behind the scenes one as it is now. When that happens, the individual may not be able to decide to have a hospital dedicate resources to his/her relative just because he/she wants it that way.
Hashem Yishmor.
squeakParticipantYes, I think that it is a great one.
squeakParticipantonly by you, areivim, only by you.

squeakParticipantmoish, you have a good sense of humor. His life will be hell indeed!
The old joke goes like this:
Q: What is the punishment for suicide?
A: Life in prison
Q: What is the punishment for attempted suicide?
A: Hanging
The Niagara thing isn’t just because of suicide. People tried to go over in a barrel for the thrill (or whatever motivates idiocy). Not to commit suicide. Either way, it would be disruptive, so they ask people to please choose a different site.
squeakParticipantOne more thing – regarding the Shibboleth “joke” I have no sympathy whatsoever. This is straight out of Navi. You have no call to be upset over the fact that you did not learn this (or if you did, but forgot). If you had asked, and someone had responded by jeering at you, then you’d have call to be upset.
How many times do we have discussions about some halacha or the other, and someone doesn’t know what’s going on? Do they get angry? No, they ask what is going on.
squeakParticipantames, I never heard bitterness from you before. I’m sorry for the feelings I caused.
Jothar, you think she hit the nail on the head? Please!
I truly never heard anyone describe Yiddish as “another way to separate Jews”. SEPARATE JEWS??? Just the opposite – it unites Jews from all over the world. Unfortunately, not ALL Jews, but it is certainly not designed to exclude them. Read that again: Yiddish is NOT DESIGNED to EXCLUDE JEWS!!!!
Sephardim don’t natively speak Yiddish. And there’s no reason why they should have to learn it either. But I don’t understand resentment against the language. (I do understand why there is resentment against speaking Ivrit, though). Hey, we’re never going to have a universal language. We might get universal healthcare though.
The rules in the forum are now that Yiddish is forbidden. I am fine with complying with this. But please don’t take that resentment outside of these boards. And if YW wants to allow Yiddish in the future, I will have no problem traslating everything that I or some other poster types in Yiddish. In fact, I would enjoy doing so.
I myself did not grow up speaking Yiddish. Though I am a first generation American (perhaps because this), my parents never spoke to me in foreign languages. I learned it as I got older. Even now, I don’t speak Yiddish well – I can’t really keep up in conversation, but when I’m sitting at a computer you don’t know how long it takes me to come up with the words so it may seem like I’m fluent.
February 2, 2009 9:44 pm at 9:44 pm in reply to: Daven With A Hat BeYichidus or Without it with a Minyan #1082073squeakParticipantSo does the new title mean that moish has a personal minyan? Or that he is one?
squeakParticipantmoish – because it looks less like a thingie in parenthesis when it is backwards (: 🙂
areivim, the punishment varied by society. Some dragged the body around and gave a disgraceful burial. Others penalized the relatives, by seizing assets of the deceased.
In Halacha, a suicide is considered worse than a murderer because there is no possibility of teshuva. A murderer may have regretted the deed for a moment before he died. A suicide can’t really do that.
squeakParticipantIf the taskbar was locked, she would not have been able to drag it over to the side in the first place.
QED
squeakParticipantliver, kidney and heart.
squeakParticipantWhere suicide is illegal it is only because of religious law, i.e. religious Christians passed a law prohibiting suicide due to their moral leanings. There were punishments in certain societies for violating this law. The legality of suicide also has ramifications that apply to those who assist in a suicide.
In the morally corrupt US, suicide is only illegal in a few states and even there it is only a formality.
squeakParticipantDrag and drop
squeakParticipantWhat would the card say for such a theme? “May the only downsizing in our lives be in our mitzvos”???????
squeakParticipantGAW, you may pass.
squeakParticipantIn that case Jothar, which Loshon Kodesh is holy? Do you say Shema, Sheman, or Shemang? Do you wear Tzitzis, seeseeth or seetseet? Gefen or Jefen?
squeakParticipantWhy wait for Joseph’s comment? Your first sentence says all that needs to be said.
squeakParticipantCurious – you are mistaken. I know of one patient who received 3 organ transplants and never rose from the hospital bed (nor was expected to beforehand). The transplants merely extended the patient’s life by a few months. The nurses indicated that this was not uncommon, and that the person with the most immediate need gets Priority 1.
Joseph, I do agree that she should not have been removed from life support, considering the circumstances. But on a larger scale, I see the issue of healthcare rationing as a very big monster growling in the background. When this issue comes to the forefront, cases like this one may be an obvious cut and then the point will be moot.
squeakParticipantDon’t forget to add this quote, to show that the US supported Israel’s stance:
<clockquote>
Hillary Clinton
Secretary of State
We support Israel’s right to self-defense. The [Palestinian] rocket barrages which are getting closer and closer to populated areas [in Israel] cannot go unanswered
squeakParticipantmoish, it’s really nice of her to give you her computer on permanent loan.

February 1, 2009 7:54 pm at 7:54 pm in reply to: How Many Hours A Day Do You Spend In The YWN CR? #636490squeakParticipantYOU’RE curious? I thought it was only one sn per customer?
squeakParticipantxoxo, I think that I am the organizer that Joseph was referring to.
squeakParticipantGood point, moish, but that is exactly the issue. Rationing is necessary because every individual thinks that they should get everything that is possible to get. But from a broader perspective, that is not always the most utilitarian choice (not that I am endorsing that point of view).
To give an example of rationing that goes on all the time, think of organ donation. There is a huge waiting list for organs. Hospitals have to prioritize people on the list – so people have to wait, sometimes for a long time, and sometimes they never get. Meanwhile, because of the current thinking in the medical field, the person whose need is the most immediate gets the first call, even if they may have no chance of surviving. Obviously, those people and their relatives think that they should get the organ, but is that really true? Wouldn’t it be “better use” to give it to someone who could resume normal life with a transplant, rather than someone who will be buried with the transplant in 3 months?
squeakParticipantJothar, we’d love to hear your opinion. What do you think: Is Yiddish holy?
squeakParticipantWell, I don’t know about how useful, but I do know you wouldn’t like what I had to say.
squeakParticipanthow old to end one?
squeakParticipantSo why do we care about the injustice of cases like Terri Schiavo?
SJS, you bring up a good point about healthcare that is SCARY to think about. Ultimately, healthcare is and must be rationed. The need for rationing will only increase with time (as more people gain access). Not everyone can get all the healthcare they need, so the obvious question is, isn’t it a waste of care that could be applied to someone who could better use it???
squeakParticipantames, what can I say? I enjoy using Yiddish, it is a geshmaka language. It is also great that Jews everywhere, religious and not, can communicate to some degree with Yiddish. It is a shame that Sephardim in general do not also grow up with Yiddish. If they did it would truly be a universal language. I don’t attribute any kedusha to it (though I have heard bochurim darshen how it is “ossur” to speak Yiddish in a bathroom, assuming that it would be OK to speak at all) but it is SPECIAL.
moish, I am very detail oriented.
squeakParticipantmoish, I did read it, but I didn’t think you’d want me to answer you. If you do, just let me know and I will post a reply in that thread.
squeakParticipantHey O’ powerful moderator persons, if I promise to be good and not use the edit button any more, will you go back to approving my posts right away?
squeakParticipant99, that’s silly. The only people who are going to fall for that are the same ones who fell for the line about shutting down the random questions thread because the number 1000 would crash the server! The next mod will just choose a 3 digit number (gasp!) and you’ll be instantly and permanently outranked.
squeakParticipantWow, azi. A job, a 4 hour seder, the occasional post on YW, AND you still have time to hang out in front of unsavory shops that have disturbing advertisements!
squeakParticipantames, you should be zoice, er I mean merit, to have so many children!
squeakParticipantHow could I not like you, moish? We’re on the same wavelength!
squeakParticipantBut moish, it wasn’t Yoreh Yoreh. So you’re not qualified for this.
squeakParticipanter, 72, no personal info please
squeakParticipant186,000 miles per second? I believe that light goes a little faster than that. The difference is probably more than enough to earn you a speeding ticket or two (maybe even enough to outrun the cop, too).
squeakParticipantso…. no korban?
squeakParticipantqwerty – it was by accident.
squeakParticipantmoish, the last day of the fast was on Pesach (not all three days). That night was the feast and the very last night of Haman’s life.
squeakParticipantmoish, you’re a real card, you know that? 8^)
squeakParticipantHaman was hanged on the Second day of Pesach, not on Purim. Many have the custom to eat rauchfleisch (hung meat, i.e. smoked) on that day.
