“Tznius is a mindset, not a wordrobe”
Exactly. So where does this contradict…. anything? If you own a couple of labels and its not your ikkur why demonize it?
“The problem with our system today is that we spend so much time focusing on the details”
The problem with the system is that there is a double standard. With everything. One thing for girls. One thing for boys. One thing for rich, one for poor. One for children of Roshei Yeshiva, and one for the rest.

“Most people live for others”
I b’chlal dont know where you pulled that out of.
SacrilegeMemberaddicted & WIY
Disagree. We arent dealing with a Tznius issue. We may be dealing with someone who is shallow or is steeped in Gashmius, but its not Tznius.
“I think that people who have real class and real money do not have the need to flaunt their wealth by wearing labels”
I assure you, people with money wear labels. However, the classy designers dont splash their names across their clothes in iridescent colors.
“Unless you mean from the non Jewish male population…”
Completely off topic. I dont think the non-Jewish male population gives two hoots about what designer it is, as long as it barely covers they are happy. The topic at hand is Designer Labels being non Tznius. Designer does not equal Prust, if that is the misconception you were under.
“without being designer from head to heel”
Everyone knows you dont wear all your labels at once *eye roll* 😉
SacrilegeMember80
I didnt see her/him(?) mention anything about dressing untznuisdikly. Actually, her examples where shoes and a handbag, ramat’s rant is about flaunting money which by default becomes untzniusdik?
If I drive down the street in a brand spanking new Lexus (no, I dont own one) am I violating the laws of tznius? I think not.
SacrilegeMemberThis really doesnt have to do with Tznius and I dont like that it gets lumped together, because it just turns girls off from the idea of Tznius altogether.
If you can wear a designer label and still be tasteful and tznius GO RIGHT AHEAD, part of being Jewish is being a light unto the nations and to constantly be making a Kiddush Hash-m. When non-Jews see Frum girls out in the world dressed tastefully and not in some shmatta bag with their eye brows covered they see that we are normal yet refined, and I believe (for whatever its worth) that is a Kiddush Hash-m.
If you want to say that we are Goshmius hungry, that I agree with. But dont say its a tznius issue, because its not.
SacrilegeMemberBPT
You do realize that you can buy the EXACT bag that they use and make them for yourself at home.

Time to move.
SacrilegeMember“Uh oh. What does that sound like?”
Someone who needs to get a life.

You are regressing in your people analysis.
Let me try to break it down:
“Miss Kensetonia”
In the realm of Flatbush, I dont even live close to Kensington.
“daughter of someone really choshuv”
I think so 🙂
“davens like a brisker”
I think Briskers everywhere should be offended that my poor pathetic excuse for prayer is likened to their Davening.
“and wears a sweatshirt?”
Heck yea! For days off and traveling. Low maintenance, ‘member 😉
SacrilegeMemberChesed
Trust me, the TSA guy isnt thrilled about it either.
I had a female TSA lady give me the FULL pat down before these new stringencies were added. I was called out of the line (wonder if it had to do with my tzahal sweatshirt 😉 and was THOROUGHLY frisked, its not such a big deal.
SacrilegeMemberBPT
I agree, not every child is the same and not every situation is optimal for each child. Thats part of being a good parent, knowing whats good for each child. On the other hand, if you have bed rock rules, just because a kid makes a big enough stink, doesnt mean you should go and change them just because they are a spoiled brat.
SacrilegeMemberYes, the pat-down have gotten A LOT more thorough (thanks to our good friend, the underwear bomber)
That being said, its same gender pat down so really, I think everyone can take a chill.
SacrilegeMemberThere is a designer Shani who is an Orthodox Jew. Her line is called SHANI Collection and is sold in Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and Lord & Taylor. Her clothes are very classy. Not necessarily tzniusdik but I wouldnt either call it licentious either.
SacrilegeMemberDoes anyone else here think that “Shawn Hannety” & “Michael Savage” is “Moshe Rose”?
(Based on the name calling, strange stance on issues & superb spelling and grammar)
SacrilegeMemberWIY
No. Be a parent not a friend. Set rules. I hate to be trite but parenting isnt a popularity contest, kids need boundaries and thrive with discipline. I’m not saying that you need to bust out the ole whip, but you can still be fair AND stern.
It just annoys me when people blame the media and pop culture for their short comings.
SacrilegeMemberZac Posen.
Diane Von Furstenberg.
SacrilegeMemberI love statistics….
Hows this. Parents who ACTUALLY parent their child are more likely to have children who grow up normally with morals and direction.
SacrilegeMemberLevi Strauss.
Kenneth Cole. He is married to Maria Cuomo (the Governor elect’s sister) so unfortunately their kids arent Jewish.

“willing to take my word for it.”
After catching you making up a couple of halachos…. not likely 😉

Exactly. I am not one to bring up an issue like this with a family member since I dont like to start machlokes. I just thought it exceedingly disrespectful of my cousin (who really IS a big masmid, and has the chops to back it up) who was seated next to my Grandfather at a Shabbos Sheva Brachos, didnt say a word to him the entire meal, continued learning throughout his speech, wasnt helpful in the way of passing food. In essence he was just taking up a seat.
I really do hate throwing around chazals but if this is not what they meant when they said “derech eretz kadma latorah” I dont know what they did.
SacrilegeMemberDRUGS!!!
SacrilegeMemberWIY
I disagree. If you are at a family simach with all your cousins your learning can wait an hour or two so that you can socialize with your family members. If that is too taxing stay at home or in the bais medrash.
SacrilegeMemberThe same thing bothers me.
It also bothers me when my “super masmidim” family members do it at family sheva brachos and at the shabbos table.
Learning is learning and mentshlachkeit is mentshlachkeit.

Gramercy – great hotel. Always good for a celebrity sighting.
Plaza Hotel – The architectural design imitates that of medival french chateaux. There is so much history in the building (it is only 1 of 2 hotels in NYC to be awarded landmark status)

If you decide to expand your luxury Condo collection, there are 181 residential units to choose from ranging from 2.5M – 40M 🙂
SacrilegeMemberWIY
I did respond. It got deleted 🙁
My previous one was edited as well, seems like I’m not behaving myself…

“At the minimum you should Daven Shemonah Esrei”
I do. Twice a day.

….and Mercedes made the ovens.
We had no relatives in the holocaust. My mother’s side is from Israel, and my father’s family was already in America for 2 generations nonetheless, my father wont touch a product made in Germany. He once bought a nail clipper and a few weeks later saw that on the bottom of it said MADE IN GERMANY, he tossed it right out.

As much as we like to make fun of how stupid city agencies are, buying an 18.5M Condo and ten asking for a tax reduction… is a long shot. Maybe in a few years.
I actually looked at the assessment for the Hotel, it looks like they have some back years they havent worked out yet…. But, get a good reduction on what that is currently assessed at, everyone goes home happy.

The Mishna Berura says that Tefilla is a mitzva aseh shehazman grama, in which woman arent obligated. Yes, tefillah is mandatory by the Torah but at what time, it is not.
(I wasnt looking for a loophole, I do what works for me)
SacrilegeMember“But seriously you have a chiyuv to daven Mincha”
Uh no, I dont. Woman have a chiyuv of davening 1 tefila that encompasses shevach and bakasha. Most poskim agree you need a Shmoneh Esrei. If you cant, Brachos can suffice as a bare minimum.
SacrilegeMembersqueak
Seems like our friendship is in jeopardy.
SacrilegeMemberThanks Mods.
My post makes no sense now 😛
SacrilegeMemberWIY
“That being said your father can be matir your neder”
I believe you need 3 men.
“If you already are Davening 2x a day make Mincha #2.Mincha is shorter than Maariv”
It’s not about switching up the battle plan or what is longer or shorter, I took on Maariv for a specific reason.
“Although it may mean less time in the CR”
Is there a way to daven Mincha discreetly, sitting by your desk. looking at your screen?
“Davening to Hashem and putting Him before us”
Dont flatter yourself.
SacrilegeMemberPopa
Actually I am a Protist which makes me neither.
Who needs men really?
SacrilegeMembersqueak
Mainly because the asking price is 18.5M, and if you got that kinda money laying around….. this friendship is going to work out wonderfully 😀
SacrilegeMembersqueak
How much did you close for 😉
SacrilegeMember80
Smooth, huh?
SacrilegeMemberI dont mean know you know you. I dont know anything ABOUT you.
I know I am the over sharer of the bunch…
SacrilegeMemberI’d recommend Sternberg. There is a huge mix of girls from all backgrounds.
Girlzone is a Kiruv camp with girls who have little to no background to Yiddishkeit…. not sure you want that.
SacrilegeMemberWIY
I know I dont have a chiyuv for Maariv I just started doing it a long time ago and I think I would have to do Hatoras Nidorim to stop. Mincha isnt going to happen.
SacrilegeMemberphrum
I’m not that easy… and I dont know you.
SacrilegeMember“mandarin oriental – colombus circle”
That is a gorgeous hotel…
With an even more gorgeous Condo for sale upstairs 🙂
SacrilegeMemberWhy would I eat something weird?
To expand your horizons. Same reason why people travel.

Actually I’m not.
Maariv for me, came from less than noble intentions but I’ve kept with it… I think I started in 11th grade (dont worry, I dont go to shul)

Clever 😉
Tricky since we are on an anonymous site. IDK.

A friend that knows a guy MORE than I do. Blinky and I probably know WIY about the same, and I know myself, not much, but slightly more than Blinky.
SacrilegeMemberWIY
Pen on paper, if you want me to give you the boring stats I can say: Professional, Talmid Chacham etc etc… but nothing is etched in stone, if a good friends tells me they think something is a good idea, I’ll give it a try, sometimes things just work.
SacrilegeMemberblinky
Thats true but just because we enjoy a friendly banter doesnt mean we are meant for each other.
WIY
Believe me, none taken.
