May 3, 2011 4:50 pm at 4:50 pm in reply to: Skverer rebbi predicts predicted the assassination of Osama bin Laden This week #763898OfcourseMember
Did he mention Osama by name? Did he mention anything that differentiates the Osama sitch from all the other Arab leaders who are being overthrown by their own people?
Lets not start another Talking Fish story.
OfcourseMemberI’ll be barfing. Two unattractive home-wreckers.
May 2, 2011 8:23 pm at 8:23 pm in reply to: What noticeable differences have you felt while living in diff neighborhoods? #763312OfcourseMemberIve lived in BP all my life and three things bother me while visiting other neighborhoods-
1- This bothers me especially on Shabbos somehow- Lots of women dressed not Tzniusdik (many not Shomer Shabbos, spoiling the Shabbos atmosphere)- the most Tzniusdik in other neighborhoods are similar to the least Tzniusdik in BP, and Im no Rebbitzen myself, Im average.
2- Boomboxes or passing cars with loud secular music in lots of neighborhoods.
3- Barking dogs all over the place.
Sometimes I wish the above wouldnt bother me, but its my BP conditioning and antennas at work.
OfcourseMemberCaller on the Lou Dobbs show says he wishes they would have hung OBL’s body in the WTC area for a week to allow all those who’d have wanted to spit on his body, to do so.
OfcourseMemberStart out (from 1824 53rd street) going South East on 53RD ST towards 19TH AVE
Turn left onto 20TH AVE
Turn left onto MCDONALD AVE
Turn right onto ELMWOOD AVE
Arrive at 129 ELMWOOD AVE
12 minutes walking.
OfcourseMemberaries Much like Obama.
No one in the world is laughing at Obama today (s’iz em gelungen). Theyre laughing at Trump and saying Trump is demanding OBL’s Death Certificate. 😉
OfcourseMemberThose who live in close proximity to mosques, etc:
Is there mourning for a fallen terrorist, or pride as Americans?
OfcourseMemberHow are his buddies, our neighbors in Kensington, taking this?
OfcourseMembermewho, all i can say is those hats were outrageous. i cant even figure out how some stayed on their heads.
Hmm, Im wondering…Are the hats that drastically different than those worn on Shabbos by women in frum communities like the Five Towns, etc? Maybe adorned with larger flowers.
OfcourseMemberI know the shaving hair thread was closed, but I’ve heard that the Skulener Rebbe, who is one of the biggest Tzaddikim alive today, tells people (even non-Chassidim) that He highly values women shaving their hair as a Segula for Hatzlacha and Mazel. This is even though it’s understood that shaving is not Halacha for all. I can only imagine how importantly he views not allowing men to see one’s hair, when married.
OfcourseMemberStuffed, do people go as crazy when a rebbes son gets married??
In Brooklyn and Israel, definitely.
The royal wedding was interesting to the whole world (billions world-wide watched it). I think ratings were higher than people on the moon. Im not a Posek, but I thought it was all very classy (besides the couple’s living arrangements ;( before the marriage).
OfcourseMembers2021, Does anyone think its an emotionall thing cuz wer sad Shabbos left us
Sad that we can log on here?
May 1, 2011 2:58 am at 2:58 am in reply to: Anyone here into details of tomorrow's Royal Wedding? #762720OfcourseMemberStuffed, chances are it wont last…..
If youre that confident, place a bet on it (if its Halachically allowed). Although I hope those who bet on it do better than the woman who bet $10,000 on the specific crown this bride would choose, and lost. Poor woman. ;(
OfcourseMemberIsnt there a Bracha said upon seeing people who are exceptionally beautiful/handsome? That makes it 2 Brachos. I feel the bride and grooms looks fall into that category. Maybe its only my taste.
April 29, 2011 1:02 pm at 1:02 pm in reply to: Anyone here into details of tomorrow's Royal Wedding? #762677OfcourseMemberawob, In fact, one of the reasons we in our generation often have difficulty relating to the mushals (sic) about kings is because to us, royality is somewhat of a joke.
This couple seems to be uniquely mature, graceful and sensitive. It will be interesting to see if their marriage will stand the test of time. Lots of divorces in the Royal Family in recent years! Will theirs be different? I think possibly.
April 29, 2011 6:16 am at 6:16 am in reply to: Anyone here into details of tomorrow's Royal Wedding? #762672OfcourseMemberyeshivabochur123, Better they should get rid of the royal family and give their money to struggling yungerleit in England and America.
Cute idea! The royal family must increase revenue/tourism, etc., otherwise they would have been eliminated long ago. There must be advantages to the country.
Anyhow Im in awe of how they UNINVITED the Syrian ambassador!!! Pretty interesting. I wonder who will be there from other Arab countries.
April 28, 2011 5:24 am at 5:24 am in reply to: Today 4 adar is Rav Avrohom Blumenkrantz`s Yahrtzeit Any good stories #762072OfcourseMemberNo words to express……A Gadol B’Gedolim!
OfcourseMemberWould you feel terribly uncomfortable asking the blood relative parent of hers what they think is bothering her, mentioning that you always enjoyed a good relationship with her?
OfcourseMemberOY VA VOY! My face is reddening just thinking about it.
OfcourseMemberGoq, while singles dont have the exclusives on tempers/anger issues, unfortunately, I dont blame any older singles with tempers/anger issues. I know of too many older singles who as a result of experiencing difficulties in Shidduchim, not related to their Midos or personality, later developed bad Midos and/or personality issues. Its a rough road to travel and you’re alone while you travel. I can very well picture the scene described above.
April 27, 2011 10:02 pm at 10:02 pm in reply to: If you could live anywhere, where would you live? #891008OfcourseMemberSomeone mentioned Belle Harbor. How’s keeping up with the Joneses there?
April 27, 2011 4:04 am at 4:04 am in reply to: If you could live anywhere, where would you live? #891000OfcourseMemberbored, I am curious what Reb Moshe did hold about supporting kids in yeshiva until the kids turn 65. Can someone let me know
Me too!!! Ive heard people say that if R Aaron would know how the “best learner” often goes to the highest bidder, he’d not have been happy with that.
April 24, 2011 9:09 pm at 9:09 pm in reply to: If you could live anywhere, where would you live? #890990OfcourseMemberbored, I am not a Chaim Berliner and may not listen if the rosh yeshiva announced a rule of sorts that I was not interested in.
What if R’ Moshe Feinstein a”h, were alive and would say something about Gashmius guidelines?
OfcourseMemberbored, The exception should be if someone is a real serious learner he should learn. I learn daily and am proud that I am working and supporting a family and think my kids should do the same
Im impressed! They ought to manufacture more like you!
April 24, 2011 1:41 pm at 1:41 pm in reply to: If you could live anywhere, where would you live? #890982OfcourseMemberbored, Yes I wish I can live anywhere but Brooklyn, Lakewood and other fake communitities that pomote all this garbage.
It is destroying us as a nation in many ways
Are you so sure the same doesnt exist in the Five Towns and other expensive areas? There are probably lots there living off the in laws, as well, and pushing the midle aged people to madness.
Wherever kids cant meet on their own and have to rely on Shidduchim, where one of the important factors (attractions) is money offered, its going to be the same thing. If parents dont promise, they dont marry off their children, regardless of where they live. The communities where singles meet on their own, dont have that, to this extent.
Whats your advice, bored? How do we go back to the real McCoy frumkeit of the post-WW2 era?
April 24, 2011 5:22 am at 5:22 am in reply to: If you could live anywhere, where would you live? #890973OfcourseMemberHIE whats fake about brooklyn??? they say that about lakewood
Maybe that pertains to any commnity where many of its inhabitants live on credit to keep up with the Joneses (Kleins and Grosses).
April 24, 2011 4:44 am at 4:44 am in reply to: If you could live anywhere, where would you live? #890972OfcourseMemberDovid HaMelech and HIE:
Those who have school age children need Brooklyn for the variety of schools. As people age, thats not a factor any more. Also, real estate prices being as insane as they are, even in the bad economy, you can get so much more elsewhere for the price of an average Brooklyn house. Not everyone needs twenty Shuls within a ten block radius, or for that matter ten pizza shops.
Am I the only one who is “Bored of Brooklyn”? I guess not, after reading post by boredinoffice above. Although Chesed organizations (Hatzalah, Shomrim, Chaverim, etc in Brooklyn are amazing.
April 24, 2011 2:50 am at 2:50 am in reply to: If you could live anywhere, where would you live? #890965OfcourseMemberIts surprising that so many chose Brooklyn. Those who chose Brooklyn, is that where you already live or where you want to live and why?
OfcourseMemberTwo random thoughts:
Overweight guys dont necessarily want to date overweight girls.
Overweight girls in some people’s minds is anything over a size 6. Overweight for guys means more than 50 pounds overweight, not 10 or 20 pounds. Theres a different standard for the definition of overweight for guys and girls.
The ememsdik girls are very sensitive to this and hurt by the above 2 facts.
OfcourseMembershlishi, By those folks all your ‘facts’ are in fact fictions. Halevei! And may Ruchnius keep on overtaking and eliminating Gashmius in everyone’s minds and hearts and behavior.
OfcourseMemberFact: Most guys want girls who are attractive and not excessively overweight, whether the guys are familiar with sizes or not.
Fact: Girls in frum High Schools and Seminaries are fed “Sheker Hachain v Hevel Hayofee, Isha Yiras Hashem Hi Tshallal”. Watching one’s weight and focus on appearance and being attractive to the opposite gender, is rarely or never encouraged.
Fact: Many of the real emesdik type girls, when in Shidduchim, get the rude awakening that what they were taught in High School and Seminary is far from reality. Girls discover that Gashmius figures much larger in their lives than what they expected (based on what they were taught in Seminary).
Fact: Problems and huge disappointments result for many.
April 17, 2011 7:45 am at 7:45 am in reply to: Are No-Iron Dress shirts (like Paul Fredrick, etc) REALLY absolutely no iron? #785120OfcourseMembercharlieh: They dont seem to come in french cuff. I see Geoffrey Beene shirts w french cuffs, and Geoffrey Beene “Sateen” shirts, but none that are both sateen and french cuffs.
OfcourseMemberZK, that was beautiful! Amazing Mashal!
OfcourseMemberWhy sweat? Marry a V E R Y rich girl and arrange a V E R Y generous and legally documented pre-nup. Quicker than getting a degree.
April 13, 2011 2:27 am at 2:27 am in reply to: Do I have to make my own Gefilte Fish to avoid that starchy taste? #758494OfcourseMemberShrek, I know lots of people who would LOVE to be fishing now. 😉
OfcourseMemberSooner or later the difficult people get what they deserve. The risk-taking spouses, who fantasize it’ll be different with them, exit one after another.
OfcourseMembereclipse Why did I ever raise my voice like a nut case which Mr. X taped and let everyone hear?
A shame you couldnt video the surrounding circumstance you were put in that brought it on. Almost no one goes nuts and yells and screams for nothing.
The best revenge is when these “sweetie pie innocent” husbands have one spouse after another leave them. And it happens many times. Desperate girls/women fantasize it’ll be different with them, nebach.
April 12, 2011 4:43 pm at 4:43 pm in reply to: Any new Pesach (Non-Gebrokt) recipes this year? Or great old ones? #758341OfcourseMemberThanks, Y.W. Editor!
I’m specifically looking for non-gebrochts tried and tested recipes that CR folks testify as being especially good.
April 12, 2011 3:49 pm at 3:49 pm in reply to: Any new Pesach (Non-Gebrokt) recipes this year? Or great old ones? #758338OfcourseMemberadorable, the eggplant rollups were great. Hoping Ill locate the recipe this year in my Pesach stuff.
Ive got the Susie Fishbein Passover cookbook, Balabuste’s Choice, and Nitra. Which recipes from any of those cookbooks are especially good?
April 12, 2011 12:04 am at 12:04 am in reply to: Are No-Iron Dress shirts (like Paul Fredrick, etc) REALLY absolutely no iron? #785109OfcourseMemberIf I’m after the crisply ironed “Chinese cleaner” look, and I have to send them to the cleaner for this look, is there any reason for me to pay more for non-iron?
OfcourseMemberAmnon’s makes the best pizza in BP. The reason it is so good is because of the huge turnover, so its always fresh, and the boss’ watchful eye. Amnon was going to sell and retire, but hes still at it, amush! Nice guy!
OfcourseMembereclipse, ofcourse…that letter(from last week) was signed by all the sisters….
..”that letter”? I must have missed that. Which thread are you referring to?
Not easy. Keep strong.
OfcourseMemberI vote for an evening with good friends or sisters (even though it’s before Y”T!) together with a splurge that’s more permanent. Something you’ve wanted for a long time and hesitated about. Otherwise youll look at it the next day and say- What did I do that for?
April 10, 2011 6:13 am at 6:13 am in reply to: Honoring The Fogels- Mods, please post this beautiful letter encouraging Unity #757387OfcourseMemberMay we all focus more on our virtues than our vices and attempt to remember the Fogels a”h, in a unified spirit.

How do I get “m’chila from thousands of Rabbonim that you were (I was) motzi laz on”?
Help…….

April 8, 2011 10:30 pm at 10:30 pm in reply to: Honoring The Fogels- Mods, please post this beautiful letter encouraging Unity #757381OfcourseMembertomim tihye, why focus on that part, instead of the rest? I dont want to judge him, we are all humans and make mistakes.
OfcourseMemberYou can flavor water with any of hundreds of herbal teabags. The sky is the limit.
April 8, 2011 8:04 pm at 8:04 pm in reply to: When you see Holocaust era films, how do they affect you? #757272OfcourseMemberAin, Secondly, YES, I DO mean that Jews should also learn to defend themselves physically, and to (legally) own (and know how to use) firearms.
Perhaps along the lines of R’ Meir Kahane a”h’s thoughts, who said many years ago, that NOTHING will ever appease a Jew hater, and there will always be virulently angry Jew haters. How right he was! I think he felt that way about Jews arming themselves and being prepared for the worst, and at the same time learning Torah.
