Which one of Charlie’s suggestion could be considered Yeshivish?

The shaila was related to someone who showed abhorrence to a distinctly Jewish food and how this related to a sofek in the person’s yichus.

R’ Elayashiv ultimately paskened that there should be giyur l’chumura.

I guess it would make sense that at a kiddush where egg salad was served, there would be herring left over. There was a story about someone asking a related shaila to R Elyashiv.

I find the egg salad at a kiddush much more disturbing, and I personally do not enjoy herring.

However, I see that millions of people enjoy herring very much. I am not arrogant enough to thus say that it is the “nastiest food ever invented”, because I personally do not enjoy it.

BTW, is “baal” tashchis a new avodah zorah?

    PAA,

I was saying that hunting is not ossur because of tzaar balei chayim.

And you need to edit what you wrote. Killing the animal is not ossur because of tzar baalie chayim.

Causing Tzaar for a necessity is also muttar.

    PAA,

I never said that the NB issued a blanket heter, it was clear that this was in reference to hunting.

And your comment about skins, I was referring to cases where it is not for parnassah, just that the person would like the skin for whatever personal use. In such a case, you may have to mitigate the sakana.

You were jumping the gun on your assumptions.

    Rat,

I did not assume his sources were apikorsim, I assumed, and I am sure correctly so, that he had no clue as to any sources and was just spouting what he assumed.

He would then google and that is who would show up.

If either of you would have read the NB and understood any part of it, You would see that it does not support ZD. There would be no difference between hunting and fishing.

And hunting for skins would probably be mutar if you could mitigate sakana.

    Your assumption is wholly incorrect.

The OP did say that he/she expects the money to go to others. Not all tzar is are dealt with by throwing money at it.

There are many wealthy people who live nicely but they give huge sums to tzedakah. Amounts that I would assume many of the posters who make these comments cannot fathom. But they reach far into 7 & 8 digits. Annually.

They rely on heterim to distribute more than a chomesh.

There are also those who probably can give more, but most of these posters ignore or cannot fathom that there are huge baalei tzedakah who do so quietly.

So the question is if there are people who are having tzar is should we afflict ourselves also just to feel for them.

Similar to what we see in maseches taanis.

    APY,

I don’t think it is difficult to understand at all.

I know, and you know that there are parents who all they do is lambast the school and blame them for everything they ridicule everything the school suggests. They talk derogatorily about the hanhala.

They loudly proclaim their “deios kozvos”

And then they want to know why their children do not have success in school when all they do is fight anything the school is trying to teach. And they wonder why schools do not want to accept their children.

The parents will not show the most basic respect to the principals when they come for interviews. They walk in with demands.

DO you doubt that these parents ambush their children’s success? Who do you think are the real “baalei gaavah?

    APY,

Where you inclined to be intellectually honest you would acknowledge that there is a huge difference between not being uniform and being a “non-conformist”. If this weren’t an orthodox group you would say that they are the ones with the multitude of piercings or other such in your face demonstrations. And you are aware of that. And R AYL Shteinman would concur that it is Gaava of these individuals to be do negative about all things Tarahdik and still think that everyone else is at fault. Or perhaps a manifestation of mental illness.

“The problem the way I see it is that in recent years conformity has been replaced with uniformity. “

this the comment that the non-conformists like to use.

My specific knowledge comes from a school with a very wide range in its student and parent body. Only someone looking to try to upset the system would even try to identify the school as “uniform”.

Yehoshua ben Gamla just made school available, however the preferred method was for a father to teach his child.

Considering the fact that there are many schools that are already stretched to capacity, it is a wonder why there are parents who ambush their children’s opportunity to get into the school they think they would like by insisting on non – conformance with the school standards.

Just like a school has to work with parents, the converse is at least as much true.

Why would you expect a school to go out of its way to accept children beyond its capacity, when the parents have no interest in conforming with school standards? They are setting their children up for failure by the conflicting messages they are sending to their children.

And I say this as being aware of what happens in a school where a family member works. And it is not even a “super farfrumte” school, rather it is a typical Yeshiva.

A person was in the cemetery and he sees a person standing by grave diggers who were digging a grave. He looks and sees that the grave is 18 feet deep. The passerby is shocked and asks the person what’s going on. The person answered that the grave was for his mother in law and that they said about her that deep down she was a very nice person.

    ZD,

You made a statement about people confusing vegetarianism and vegetarian (at least that is what I think you were trying to say) and it seems that the only one to be confused is you.

You have no idea what R Moshe says, yet there was a very specific marah mokom given. You allege that R Ovadia Yosef says something, tell me where, with an exact mareh mokom. Just because you saw someone allege that R OY said something does not mean it’s true. We saw Charlie Hall manufacture a psak of R Moshe’s right in this thread.

“Trefos is not as big an issue as you think, They just sell the chickens as non kosher, yes it will get less, but if you pack more chickens in the carrier you will more than make up for the loss.

It isnt like the olden days where a trief animal was a big loss, today its fairly small and you still make money, just not as much”

You are just showing your ignorance again.

They do not use sell the treife chickens, only cattle. And there is a significant loss that is one of the reasons why kosher meat is so much more expensive.

And there are not so many treifos from the crates (there are occasionally, I am not saying not)those are typically disposed of immediately and are probably not allowed to be used for human consumption at all.

Of course that is only my observation based on visiting a shlachthoiz and speaking to people who have worked in many, not just baseless conjecture.

    Sam,

I have no idea where you took that from anything I said. I was talking about ZD false contention about free range chickens.

But to respond, there is nothing wrong with transporting the chickens using industry norms. Excessive cruelty, obviously is not the same as industry norm and frankly does not seem logical, it would result in many more treifos, and this would definitely be counterproductive.
