Ever since this president was elected he wanted change, since he is African American no one can talk against him and his policies without being accused of racism.

There is also a very big socialist movement going on in the world, look at Honduras, Venezuela. Brazil and Mexico were very close to having socialist presidents, Europe and China. If you were to study movements around the world you would see that its heading towards a socialist movement,

Or why don’t you tell them when you invite them that you are inviting both of them, and if they could please behave. They have to learn that since they share grandchildren you are not going to make 2 different parties (birthdays, bar mitzvahs, brit milas, engagement parties, weddings’etc) all the time. Otherwise there will be no end in sight.

Am I really reading this? Why don’t we just make men neighborhoods and women neighborhoods with husbands and wives meeting in a neutral neighborhood, but only with a permission slip?

Shtayger, I said before that I have seen situations like this one, I would just advise you to focus on the positive traits of the boy, compliment and praise him in aspects that he does well in. It is probably a phase and if you make a bigger deal out of it he will get more stubborn and pull away from you.

If you make a big deal out of it and force him, it WILL backfire. I have seen it happen more than once.

Really haifa? Wow! It happens a lot to my husband but its usually with people who work with/for him so if he’ll be seeing them a lot he will explain it to them and they won’t get offended. If its with someone he’ll only see once he will sneeze or cough. If he will have to receive an award or something and the emcees are expecting to shake his hand in front of a lot of people he will send someone else up in his place.

Uh….. Bev and hud, maybe its because I live in mexico and most people here are very well off that people don’t feel the need to put other people down with their material blessings. I know the Brooklyn community very well and I also know how people struggle to make ends meet, I know how people live on food stamps, are on Medicaid and receive rent subsidies from the government, while at the same time they feel the need to spend every extra penny they have to buy material possessions to fit in.

B”H and Bli ayin hara I am not in that position, like I said most people in Mexico are materially blessed. I feel no need to get into details because there is no point in me telling everyone my personal life and my husbands business.

Cann you really tell the difference between red label, black or blue, (I think there is a gold label too)? My husband once bought 2 bottles of Johnny walker green, one bottle disappeared from my house and when he opened the remaining bottle my husband said he didn’t even like it so much.

Mazca if someone wants to spend $1000 on shoes, fine but don’t show off to people who don’t have money for food, that’s right. That just reminded me I know a family that became very wealthy in recent years. , they were very poor before, well this guy has a brother who doesn’t even have food on his table and all the rich one does(and his wife and kids) is show off to the whole community, now do you think people look up at them or down?

Example 1 I know someone that went to Europe and on a cruise to the Mediterranean last winter, they were very careful not show off to any of their friends knowing that most of them can’t afford such a trip.

Example 2 I know someone who is very very wealthy and has a garages filled with antique cars, nobody has to know the wife drives around in a Toyota camry.

Example 3 I know new rich who have to show off to the world, I know people who have more and don’t feel the need to show off.

Bottom line if you want to wear 1000$ shoes go ahead, but you don’t have to tell everyone how much they cost, and where you bought them, what to you have to prove?

Well in mexico there was a little problem because nobody was giving to the organizations here and the rabbis had to ask people to remember their city when giving tzedaka. (there is no government help like in the states the organizations are 100% self sufficient -with tzedaka of course)

    Good idea mazal!

I just don’t understand how people complain about ayin hara and they don’t realize that they are causing it by showing off.

There is a saying in Spanish that says “the louder the box sounds the emptier it is” it means that the more a person has to prove, the less he has. And a box filled to the top won’t make noise. A person who doesn’t have to prove anything is usually because he has more.

Mark levin isn’t the dairy batel be shishim?

Now that you mention the wonder bread in mexico it actually is kosher but DE. But for some reason whenever I go to a supermarket in the states the only bread that I can find that is kosher are bagels, why?

I was wondering, doesn’t it say that the order of giving tzedaka 1st your family

2nd your community and your city

    3rd eretz yisrael.

I am not saying that the poor people in eretz yisrael are not important but since they are number 3, who should we give to first?

Jphone, the difference is when you buy a brand just to show everyone the tag that says Hugo boss or you buy it and don’t feel the need for anyone to see it and you don’t look down on people who can’t afford it. Because I know plenty of people that only buy certain labels so people should see them.

We are all affected by the marketing of expensive, luxurious items, it could be cars, clothes, etc.

Many times we “have to” have a certain item because its the norm in the society that were living in.

My opinion is that if a person can afford expensive items they should buy it- however they should be very careful not to show the brand name(even if its very expensive) nobody has to know what brand your purse is and how much you spent on it.

For example, I see people wearing certain shoes and purses that have certain little CC’s on them, its not like they are the cutest shoes they just wear them for the brand, then I know other people who wear probably more expensive shoes and you’d never know.

Maybe times are very difficult and these ways are very affective. A lot of people like the whole glamour aspect of giving tzedaka, there are different levels of giving .

Because before a girl goes out with a guy, her family investigates everthing. From who were his teachers in kindergarten, who his friends were in 3rd grade, what grade he got on a test in 9th grade, what type of families his siblings married, what he ate for breakfast on Tuesday, what type of toothpaste he uses, etc (I think you get the point)

If something doesn’t convince you from the list, they’ll move on to the next shidduch. We have to realize that there is no perfection, thinking and expecting to find it can end up being fruitless.

All the imported kosher items here are all overpriced and expired.

Another problem is that the items that are on the kosher list are not all mehadrim, whatever that means…. Or for ashkenazim its not even permissible. I guess like in the states where all the meat isn’t chalak bet yosef and everythings bishul goy for sephardics.

The whole shadchan system is obviously flawed. Maybe there’s a different approach.

Just out of curiosity, what’s considered a bottom of the barrel boy, girl or family?
