When did obama break the law and talk his way out of it?
Apparently it worked on you.
When did Bush break the law and talk his way out of it?

When did Carter break the law and talk his way out of it?

When did Reagan break the law and talk his way out of it?

When did Kennedy break the law and talk his way out of it?
Apparently it worked on you.
Matan1ParticipantPopa, that’s not fair. I can say that about anything or anyone.
Matan1ParticipantThanks!
Matan1ParticipantRABBI Lamm. Mods please! Show some kavod!
Look at Joe’s post–is that better?
Matan1ParticipantIn Shmitah V’yovel 13:13 the Rambam writes:
??? ??? ??? ???? ??? ?? ??? ???? ??? ??? ????? ??? ???? ???? ???? ?????? ???? ????? ????? ???? ?”?
????? ??????? ???? ?? ?”? ???? ??? ??? ????? ?????? ???? ??? ????? ??? ???????? ????? ??? ???? ??? ???? ??? ?? ????? ??? ????? ????? ?”? ???? ?????? ????? ??????? ?????? ????? ?? ???”? ??? ?????? ?? ??? ???? ?????? ?????. ??? ??? ?”? ???? ?”? ??? ???? ????? ??? ????? ?????: ???? ????? ??????: ???? ???? ??????? ????? ??????
But in the halacha right before, he writes:
???? ?? ??? ??? ????? ??? ????? ??????? ?? ???? ???? ?????? ????? ?? ?”? ????? ??????? ????? ?????? ??????? ??????? ????? ????? ???? ?????? ????? ?????? ??????. ????? ?????? ????? ????? ?? ?????? ????? ???? ????? ??? ?????? ??? ????? ????? ??? ????. ??? ?? ??? ??? ????? ??? ?”? ????. ???? ???? ??? ???? ??? ????? ??? ???? ??????
Clearly, the Rambam is talking about those who teach Torah, not learn Torah.
Matan1ParticipantNot to get off topic, but is very shver to use the Rambam as a proof for kollel. When he says that anyone can join shevet Levi, he means to teach Torah, not to sit and learn.
Plus, the Rambam also clearly writes than one cannot receive money for learning.
Chareidim started a movement when learning in kollel is the norm, going against the status quo of hundreds of years of Jewish history!
Matan1ParticipantJoseph, are you kidding? You really think that Kollel was always the norm, and that woman were the primary breadwinners? Or that everyone wore black hats?
Chareidim created their own movement. At least as much as MO did.
Matan1ParticipantJoseph, come up with some original ideas please. Don’t plagiarize.
Matan1ParticipantJoseph, are all your threads a copy of frumteens? Or only most of them?
May 10, 2015 6:04 pm at 6:04 pm in reply to: Should the wishes of racist parents that I not date their child be respected? #1076369Matan1ParticipantI would consider both shidduchim. Race is something that does not bother me.
Matan1ParticipantLet me guess, MO roshei yeshiva don’t rank?
Matan1ParticipantIs there a conversion chart for roshei yeshivos? How does one know who is greater?
Matan1ParticipantJoseph, do you have any substantial evidence for your claim?
May 10, 2015 4:25 am at 4:25 am in reply to: Should the wishes of racist parents that I not date their child be respected? #1076362Matan1ParticipantThen flip a coin
Matan1ParticipantWhy? Would Rabbi Rakeffet make up a story?
Matan1Participantmdd, because Jewish woman should not do something that is not done by non Jewish women. It would be inappropriate
May 10, 2015 4:02 am at 4:02 am in reply to: Should the wishes of racist parents that I not date their child be respected? #1076360Matan1ParticipantFind pictures of both guys and let the girl decide. Not rocket science.
May 8, 2015 5:41 am at 5:41 am in reply to: Should the wishes of racist parents that I not date their child be respected? #1076344Matan1ParticipantAgain, not on topic. The OP is talking about a case where the parents are racist, and say no for that reason.
And in your hypothetical case, the parents are still showing a lack of midos. They are rejecting a shidduch for a terrible reason.
Matan1ParticipantJoseph, chas v’shalom! I am saying that many halachos of tznius are relative to the society that one lives in.
May 8, 2015 4:04 am at 4:04 am in reply to: Should the wishes of racist parents that I not date their child be respected? #1076342Matan1ParticipantYes, but the case we are talking about is when the parents voice their objection to the shidduch
May 7, 2015 11:06 pm at 11:06 pm in reply to: Should the wishes of racist parents that I not date their child be respected? #1076338Matan1ParticipantYou may be right that it’s not assur to be dumb. I don’t know. But at the very least, it shows a huge lack of kavod habrios and derech eretz,
May 7, 2015 6:55 pm at 6:55 pm in reply to: Should the wishes of racist parents that I not date their child be respected? #1076331Matan1ParticipantThey are all racist.
Matan1ParticipantI think the Rambam must be seen in as written in a society where women barely ever left home, so if a woman were to so more that twice a month it would be inappropriate.
May 7, 2015 5:50 pm at 5:50 pm in reply to: Should the wishes of racist parents that I not date their child be respected? #1076328Matan1ParticipantJosep: “At the very least, I don’t see how having a desire to marry a white girl is any worse than a desire to marry a blonde girl.”
We are not talking about attraction. We are talking about parents not wanting their child to marry someone of a different race. Which is racist.
And if a parent cares about the color of the hair of their child’s spouse, there are probably some serious issues with that parent.
Matan1ParticipantExcept that for our zaidas, polio meant death or deformities. It is better to have all that now.
Matan1ParticipantOur zaidas were fine without running water. Were they fine without antibiotics, vaccines, and pasteurization?
Just because our ancestors didn’t have something doesn’t mean we have to live without it.
May 5, 2015 3:18 am at 3:18 am in reply to: Should the wishes of racist parents that I not date their child be respected? #1076301Matan1ParticipantJoseph: “For such traditional and time honored marriage arrangements, is a race based rejection, in your opinion, in the same category as a beauty or height based rejection?”
Yes. They are both ridiculous. Why are mothers looking at pictures of girls for her son? Let the son decide who he feels attracted to! And a mother’s racism should have no influence on her son’s marriage.
May 4, 2015 10:14 pm at 10:14 pm in reply to: Should the wishes of racist parents that I not date their child be respected? #1076284Matan1ParticipantJoseph,
If the reason that you don’t like red heads or short people is because you believe that they are inferior, then yes, you will have answer.
And yes, in both cases, the mother is acting wrong.
Matan1ParticipantDo you really think Obama is a communist, 147?
Matan1ParticipantGet vaccinated!!!
May 3, 2015 5:08 am at 5:08 am in reply to: Seemingly ordinary things that are actually a problem in halacha or Kabalah #1085086Matan1ParticipantNot less snakes. Less snakes in our houses and where we keep our water.
May 3, 2015 4:22 am at 4:22 am in reply to: Seemingly ordinary things that are actually a problem in halacha or Kabalah #1085084Matan1ParticipantThere were probably more poisonous snakes around in previous generation than today
Matan1ParticipantThere is no DSM VI, and the DSM is a manual for diagnosing mental illnesses, not physical ones.
Matan1ParticipantOmek Hadavar
Matan1ParticipantFrom the Organization for the Resolution of Agunot:
“Why should I sign a Halachic Prenup? My fiance is a great person and would never want to hurt me?
As a matter of public policy, signing The Prenup must become the norm so that all members of the Jewish community are protected from the horrors of get-refusal. To prevent an outbreak of disease, the entire population needs to be vaccinated, not just a few people.
Matan1ParticipantFind me a MO rabbis that refuse to be mesader kedushin with a pre-nup.
Matan1ParticipantActually, I just proved that YU talmidim believe in daas torah. The roshei yeshiva said to sign a pre-nup, and YU guys do!
Matan1ParticipantWell, all the roshei yeshiva of YU have told the guys to do it
Matan1ParticipantFair enough
Matan1ParticipantI apologize for mislabeling R’ Gedalia Dov Schwartz as not MO.
Matan1ParticipantThey still say you should sign a pre-nup.
Anyways, this is missing the point. There are many great poskim who encourage the pre-nup.
Matan1ParticipantThis is the 2006 resolution of the RCA:
“RESOLVED that since there is a significant agunah problem in America and throughout the Jewish world, the Rabbinical Council of America declares that no rabbi should officiate at a wedding where a proper prenuptial agreement on get has not been executed.”
Matan1ParticipantFirst off, The pre-nup has the endorcment of Rabbis Zalman Nechemia Goldberg, Dov Schwartz and Moshe Heinemann, who I do not believe are MO.
Second of all, why does it matter that most of the rabbonim are MO? Rabbis Willig and Schachter are both gedolim. Why should their opinions matter less?
Finally, the pre-nup is widely used. The RCA released a statement saying that none of their members should officiate a wedding if a pre-nup was not signed. All the YU roshei yeshiva support the pre-nup.
Matan1ParticipantPopa, why on earth would the BDA no longer exist, or be taken over by YCT? Do`you refrain from signing legal documents, fearing that the USA will be taken over by ISIS?
Matan1ParticipantIt is widely used. Check out the ORA website. The list of rabbonim how use the pre-nup is huge.
Matan1ParticipantSign the halachik prenup! Make sure this problem never can happen to begin with.
Matan1ParticipantHe plays with the Lavyason
Matan1ParticipantAs i’m sure Sam can back me up on, Rav Schachter has publicly stated that MBP should not be done, and a sterile tube should be used instead.
Matan1ParticipantHow about we don’t call people insulting names?
