Heath, I’ve been following the posts and have a few questions and points

    1. Did the MO neighborhoods and approval for the school precede the buildings that the Chareidim occupy? If so they can’t complain now about the view.

    2. Is the school in fact on the border? If it is and the times of the day when the girls go and come from school, why do the men any out on tat corner if the so offends them?

Just the fact that people consider replying to shidduch inquiries with lies makes me question the whole process (keeping silent is in effect the same )

    Derech HaMelech

My point was not to question the validity of Chassidus, just to point out that we tend to accept as mesora what was in existence when we were born and question the mesorah of the new. At the time the Besht was a minority of one and went against all the gedolei hador. If the Besht had come today, you would probably be among those questioning his mesora.

BY the way one example of ” we tend to accept as mesora what was in existence when we were born and question the mesorah of the new”. Many shuls now have a hashkomah minyan on Shabbos.

But do you know its origin, its mesorah? It’s roots go back only 100 years and they were started by Jews who gave into the pressure of having to work on Shabbos but still wanted to daven with a minyan and hear the laining.

    Derech HaMelech,

I’m curious, what was the mesorah for Chassidus and their adoption of a whole new nussach and minhaggim?

The 5TVAADproblem strongarm tactics come into play particularly when someone opens a placeand already has a place elsewhere. Two owners refused to pay for a second hashgacha and the Vaad had no kashrus issues. They simply said if you operate here you haveto pay. When they said no,it was announced on Shabbos not to eat there. One folded and the other. Bagel Boss is doing great

Ironically,we in folks should be saying the same time as in Israel.

Talk Unstated is intended for local conditions and in Bavel they need the rain in December so it was changed for them. The Rosh, to to avail, argued that since France and Germany needed the rain the same time as Israel

w,the start date should be changed back. So,here we are praying that Iran and iraehave good crops.

    Toi,

What if someone called rav Shach ” that shach guy ” ? You’d be upset. So, why is is ok to call Rabbi Lamm n lamm? Because you disagree with him?

Because in MO literature, they frequently refer to rishonim and acharonim by their last name (ex. Isserlis), so they must think it is ok.

My name is less, not no chumras. To the extent that I have an agenda, it’s the proliferation of chumras to the point peolple start believing a chumra is tha actual halacha ( as happened when Chava thought simply touching the tree was the ikar, not the chumra

    Toi,

” that being said its foolish to promote an agenda and to criticize these people, because my understanding of them, and yours, is pitiful. and therefore im being mocheh. do not make fun, poke fun, or have fun, with the maasim we read in sefer beraishis. it is foolish and foolhardy. “

Toi, our understanding of Adam, Chava the Avos or the Shvatim is not the point. The behavior, or misbehavior, is cited throughout our miforshim in order to provide examples of proper behaviour or behaviour to avoid.

If this wasn’t the case, why would the Torah give the reason for expulsion from Gan Eden if not to learn a lesson? Why did the Torah detail the whole series of events that led to Yoseph being sold into slavery? Yehuda and Tamar?

I don’t pretend to understand them or their madreiga. But one can draw a lesson from them as to what can happen when a chumrah takes on the status of Halacha

“The legality of “guilt” or “innocence” is besides the point. Its a matter of who do we cheer for, and who do we condenm?

What we (at least, me) are talking about here is the cheapening of the most sublime human interaction, one that has been defaced by today’s society.

We of Team Yiddishkeit need to take a stand. This sublime human interaction (can’t get more specific, but ha’maven yo’vin) is not a sport, and not a powerplay.”

Conservative was a breakaway from Reform. At their convention in the 1880’s, the left-wing Reform wanted to demonstrate a total break with Orthodoxy nd tradition so as a surprise , the waiters at dinner brought out pork, shellfish and othe pure treif foods. The “conservative” Reform members felt they had one too far and walked out and started Conservative Judaism.
