I did not say there is not a time to call the cops, Of course there is. All I am saying is that it is not a step to be taken unless you are sure you want to live with the consequences. There are other short term solutions such as calling Shalom or even moving out temporarily that do not carry the permanent ramifications calling the cops does.

Don’t call the cops yet. I don’t know where you live, but in most states they will be required by law to arrest your husband. Then they will release him, and you will be left with a husband that is even angrier than before.

Without giving support to NASI’s program, I must make a point on their behalf. People are complaining about the large amount of money being asked for. All I can say is that I would hope that any single girl in their thirties has 13,000 in the bank. They have been working (I hope) for 10-15 years and living with relatively few financial responsibilities.

    AWWSF, did you invite her?

I just have one question. Granted, everyone should be more welcoming to newcomers, but who said that he got ignored because of his srugi, maybe he got ignored like everyone who is new?

Make that two questions, everyone complains about yidden about not being welcoming to strangers, but when terrible incidents like the one we had this summer, everyone whines that you have to be careful and you cant trust anyone.

I may be mistaken, but i believe R’ Moshe paskened that one has to give maaser of his time in addition to money. (He said this in regard to ayeshiva bachur asked him if he is required to give time to learn with another bachur who needed extra help.)

We have couples meals all the time, but we make sure to have at least two other couples. This way the men are at one end of the table and the women are at the other end, and each side keeps themselves busy, there is not much inter-gender shmoozing.

There is a great site called dealnews.com which compiles the sales from many other sites. Also stores like Staples or Office Depot have major sales this time of year, because they want to restock before back-to-school. You can check out their weekly circular online. Every week has new sales. Good luck

Wolf: I may be mistaken, but i believe that the din of Chalal only applies to issurim specific to Kohanim (e.g. gerusha), as opposed to issurim that apply to the rest the Kahal (mamzer). So if a Cohen would have mamzer offspring his children would not be Chalalim. This is my understanding of the sugya in Kidushin daf 77b.

In addition, I don’t understand your statement that a the child of a forbidden kohen marriage loses Kohanic status. It is my understanding that they are a Kohen Chalal which means they lose the benifits of being a Kohen, but not that they aren’t a Kohen altogether. Please tell me if I am mistaken.

wanderingchana: Ender, ever been to the South? Actually, I have personally seen/heard both things in the Midwest also.

You are right i have never lived in the south, But there are other places out of NY besides the south. As far as the Midwest, I have lived there for most of my life and have not found “People talking about their savior every other word.”

zahavasdad: “You also might be subject to issues involving other religions. In Ny other religions sort of keep to themselves. This is not the case elsewhere. Ive seen bible quotes on buildings 50 ft high crosses. People talking about their savior every other word.”

That is absolutely ridiculous. You have never been out of town have you?

BTW if you read all the way through, you will see that it depends when you bought the 1792. If you bought before pesach 2009 (or if you bought it from a frum liquor store that bought it before 2009) then it is not a problem.

I must correct Not I. Not I is right that they will be bunping into bochurim all day, but wrong about which bochurim. It is next to R’ Tzvi Kaplan’s, R’ Dovid Soloveitchik’s, R’ Eichenstein’s among others, but not Mir or Brisk.

    Metro thanks for the advice.

I have another observation after reading all the posts. I think almost everyone here is from New York. I live closer to D.C. which as far as I know has a better job market. Plus I am NOT looking for a great paying job. I want a upper 5 figure salary (70-80K) with the ability to advance in my field.

More or less everyone is saying that law is not worth it. My question with a BTL what profession is worthwhile, that won’t take too many years (medicine)? For those who are saying MBA, from what I hear its harder to come by bussiness jobs than law jobs.
