How can a Jew attend a Christian church service? Especially the church sanctuary. For an avodah zora service. It is strictly prohibited to enter. According to all poskim from the mishna and gemorah Avoda Zora to S”A (and Rambam, Ritba, Rosh, Rashba, etc.) to contemporary poskim (Rav Moshe, Tzitz Eliezer, Rav Ovadia Yosef, etc.)

The Rashba says even for pikuach nefesh you can’t enter.

I think there’s a specific rule that someone who was frum, and a rabbi no less, and became an oivorf by throwing it all out and becoming frei, and a mechallel Shabbos and eater of treif, is a rasha and not a tinok shenishba and its a mitzvah to make chozek of him.

Fully refundable tickets — i.e. full fare tickets non-discounted — are typically fully refundable, as Nechomah indicated. They typically are purchased by business fliers who may need to cancel a flight at the last minute.

Isn’t someone who abandons Torah and frumkeit a rasha who we should make chozek of?

Keen: are you saying the airline will refuse to allow a non-Israeli to board the flight on a one-way ticket? If so, why did they sell him the ticket in the first place?

It seems the intellectual threads get a good number of deleted posts because someone or another is offended (as you said.)

Considering that this thread first posted after Yom Tov (and even after Shabbos — as in EY Friday was already after YT), it’s obvious the CR is dead without the East Coasters.

You saw the harsh words Reb Elchonon had for YU. Reb Aaron Kilter was even harsher. And he refused to ever set foot in it — even for a levaya.

It’s not a summary. It is a word-by-word verbatim translation of the entire letter. Google “rabbi elchonon wasserman yeshiva university” (without the quotes) and you will find a photocopy of the original letter in Loshon Kodesh written in Reb Elchonon’s own handwriting on his Yeshiva’s stationary with his signature. Feel free to read it yourself.

The point was he shouldn’t celebrate the death, not that he should mourn the death. That isn’t mere semantics.

Yes. Here is the a translation of a letter Rav Wasserman wrote (an actual photocopy of the original letter in Loshon Kodesh can be found online — ironically coming from YU’s archives) before being murdered by the Nazi’s ym”s:

Baruch Hashem, Erev Shabbos Kodesh Naso

I received his letters but I have no ability to do anything with this, thus I did not respond.

The yeshivos in America which are able to bring over students are the yeshivas of Dr. Revel (named Yeshiva University) in New York and Beis Midrash L’Torah in Chicago and they both are places of danger in terms of spirituality because they conduct themselves in a spirit of freedom. And what benefit is there to flee from a physical danger to a spiritual danger. But I sent his letter to the revered Gaon, Rabbi Moshe Heiman, Dean of Mesivtha Torah V’Daas in Brooklyn and I suggested that he request of the revered Dean of the Mirrer Yeshiva that he should also write to Brooklyn to the address below:

    Rabbi Shlomo Heiman

    92 Martin Street

    America

Blessing him with life and peace and all good things forever,

    Elchanan Bunim Wasserman

Rav Elchonon Wasserman ZT”L said it is preferable to be physically murdered by the Nazi’s ym”s than to be “saved” by Yeshiva University and face the spiritual destruction there.

less, Those that don’t respect the gedolim, never did. They didn’t have anything to lose. The gedolims judgement in issuing the bans are a lot better than ours who think the bans are unjustified.

Jothar: He likely intended to say that Hashem runs the world, but misspoke saying the Rebbe. If he by mistake said Moshe Rabbeinu runs the world, instead of saying Hashem, I don’t believe you would be saying all this. That he gave a shmooze in a beis medrash is all that was. That someone videotaped and published it wasn’t his doing. What silence? He must take out an ad in the NY Times saying he misspoke? Speak to HIM rather than others. That three guys on the street gave a knee-jerk defense of it has nothing to do with R. Cunin. They aren’t his spokesmen.
