I just listened to Little Kite – havent heard it for years….really, sidi? It’s sad? Even if you do find it moving – you would put it together with teardrop and memories? Interesting…..I think there are more moving songs out there than Little Kite….(Neshomele, Piano Boy, Next Gadol Hador, Daddy Dear, for instance…)

I dunno if this is what SiDi was referring to (and I’m really not great at chumash and stuff) but I remember something about how Rochel thanked Hashem when she had Yosef coz now she had someone to blame (I could have the story totally wrong, BTW)??

With a song like that, do you blame them? Not exactly a confidence-booster

“Furthermore, I highly doubt that if a student would disappear, Dumbledore’s first reaction would be to suspect a teacher of abducting the student, much less Moody whom he specifically brought in to increase security and trusts implicitly.”

Read my post. I never said he would suspect Moody. I said he would question him. Meaning, gather the teachers and tell them the news, and ask if they saw/heard anything suspicious etc. He would be sure to question Moody particularly, who was supposedly once one of the best aurors and is more likely to have seen something suspicious going on in the castle (being that he can see through walls and all)

Dictionary definition of random: “without definite aim, direction, rule, or method” So tell me, how does “I don’t know who she got engaged to; some random guy” make sense? (Answer: it doesn’t. I just say it 😉 )

“Alas poor Yorick” what century are these people living in, exactly? That sounds like Shakespeare

“It would be a lot easier to slip him a portkey while Harry was in his office”

Right. Because that wouldnt be suspicious at ALL. I think that despite what people say, that putting Harry’s name in the goblet generated a lot of suspicion – while that may be true, people suspected Harry, or karkaroff, or even dumbledore, but did anyone suspect moody-crouch?? whereas had Harry just disappeared stam, the first thing Dumbledore would have done would have been to question the teachers, which was the last thing crouch would have wanted, since Dumbledore was very good at detecting lies.

“he could have Imperiused anybody else to present Harry with a Portkey”

well then wouldnt that person be transported before he got the chance to hand over the portkey?

“4) There were a bunch of suggestions but I don’t think any of them really addressed the question. I was not suggesting that Harry shouldn’t have been involved; he should have been able to get help (from a minimal amount of people).”

I believe sirvoddmort answered this satisfactorily.

“The plan had to be confined to a small group, because were it to be revealed, Voldermort could easily foil the plans. This explains why Harry (who we already have proven must be an integral part of the plan), could not enlist the entire Order to help destroy Horcruxes, as it would mean that only one person had to be broken for the plan to fail.”

“Why then in Book 4 can Mrs. Weasley slammed a large copper saucepan down on the kitchen table and began to wave

her wand around inside it. A creamy sauce poured from the wand tip as she stirred.?”

You cant create food. You can summon it if you know where it is . Perhaps she was summoning all the ingredients from the fridge.

    Same for the others.

“Why did Harry have to be the one to locate and destroy the horcruxes? I’m sure others (e.g. Kingsley, Moody et al) could have done a much better job.”

Imagine if Harry knew nothing about the Horcruxes, and Moody, kingsley etc. destroyed them all. Then, after Snape died, Harry learned that he would have to die, because there was a piece of Voldemort’s soul in him, one of the Horcruxes. He would have no idea that the others had all been destroyed – therefore, why SHOULD he give up his life, when it might be for nothing? For all he’d know, there could be five Horcruxes out there still. Once he dies, Voldemort will take over, and there’s no knowing that kingsley etc. would survive….. Harry gave up his life, since he had just dedicated the last year to destroying Horcruxes. When he knew the job was nearly finished, and that he was dying al kiddush Hashem, that’s when he had the courage to face Voldemort and be killed.

“Why did (fake) Moody have to devise the entire elaborate plan of entering Harry into the tournament, and helping him every step of the way, and volunteering to carry the cup etc.? He could have skipped all of that and just turned any random thing into a portkey at any random time and he would have achieved the same result of getting Harry to the graveyard, with a lot less suspicion created along the way.”

He couldn’t just make anything a Portkey. He wanted ONLY HARRY in the graveyard. If he turned any random thing into a portkey, how could he know that no other student would touch it? Even in his office – there have been numerous times where students sneaked into teachers’ offices and touched/taken things they werent supposed to. So it had to be in the maze.

“Well, READ Harry Potter and you won’t be so flabbergasted!”

    SO TRUE!

I asked earlier, if it says as a subtitle “blocked” is it a joke? Randomex said no, they really are blocked. So why does it say “blocked” under Little Froggie’s name in an old thread (Question for Little Froggie) but in recent threads it says “member”?

LG – Oh I didn’t think of anything except driving! Does anyone else do that? When something has multiple meanings, automatically assume it means a certain thing (usually something important to them)? Like for e.g. I asked for something at the office in our school, and the secretary said, “Sure, we’ll cut and paste it for you.” I was really confused since I had given her a hard copy, and I didn’t have it on the computer……turns out she meant “cut and paste” as in, with scissors and glue…

JBD – I was thinking of Kol Berama, but I didn’t think it was appropriate for a chuppa. That song reminds me of Leiby Kletzky (probably coz the first time I heard it was on the Chofetz Chaim Tisha B’Av video the year he was killed) and it’s such a sad, sad song. A chuppa is supposed to be moving, yes, but sad?

yekke2 – I don’t know that when people check esrogim out it’s just for show. There is the concept of hiddur mitzvah, and I don’t know about where you are from, but where I am, people choose nicer esrogim because they want to glorify the mitzvah. Also, it wasn’t my idea to bring proofs from Rishonim – I am saying that in earlier posts, people said things like, “It worked for Yaakov, why shouldn’t it work for us?” Therefore I brought the example of Boaz and Rus, to show how ridiculous it is to compare ourselves to previous doros – especially the avos, for crying out loud!

Chas vshalom – just the opposite! That we AREN’T on such a high level, therefore we can’t just assume that how they did things will work for us! Yes of course there is a concept “maaseh avos siman lvanim” but it can’t always be taken so literally – there is also the concept of yeridos hadoros and we have to act differently according to the generation we live in. We are not able, in this day and age, to be as great as the avos. Therefore, we need to act differently in a lot of circumstances.
