@dial427463 – Aw, I remember hearing about that petition. Not sure why I never got around to signing it…. π
Good point, by the way – it is so much easier to take our concerns to the omnipresent King of the universe, not the human president of one country.
Bookworm120ParticipantSigned! Thank you, charliehall, for setting that petition up.
Bookworm120Participant@Sam2 – Okay. Thanks for the heads-up anyways about Hello Kitty!
@DaasYochid – That explains why the first product with Hello Kitty on it was a coin purse….
I think I’ll discuss this topic with my rabbi. π
Bookworm120Participant@Sam2 – Also in E”Y, you can get tons of Hello Kitty merchandise for children, like yomanim and backpacks…. Considering that HK’s distant relative is actively worshiped, this may very well be a serious issue. Out of curiosity, do you have reason to think that other Sanrio characters, like Melody, a rabbit, and Keropi, a frog, may be idols, too?
Bookworm120Participant@Sam2 – Whoa, no kidding. :O I thought it was Japanese, considering that Sanrio (the company that sells Kitty’s merchandise) is from Japan. And I’m pretty sure I’ve seen similar figurines that I believe were brought to America from Japan; I wasn’t sure if they were idols or simply cute little toys. *shivers*
Bookworm120ParticipantI didn’t see dial’s answer when I wrote that; I think that’s a much better interpretation.
Bookworm120ParticipantSorcery in Harry Potter.
@Sam2 – Is it fair to deduce that Hello Kitty is avodah zarah because she resembles actual Japanese idols?
Bookworm120ParticipantI think they’re looking for the answer, “I’ll do my part to end terrorism against Israel so kids don’t even have to work within five minutes to escape rocket fire.” I could send money to the right organizations to build more shelters or things like that, I could (theoretically) join up for the IDF to help protect the country, but … then what?
Bookworm120ParticipantI’ll be happy to accompany the guitar player on my harmonica! π
Bookworm120Participant128. Bookworm120? π
Bookworm120ParticipantBlimey, I’ll be ‘appy to talk wiv’ an accen’ now. Where’s me proper fish an’ chips?
Bookworm120ParticipantI’ll miss you and your posts! I commend you for making this decision; if anything changes, we’ll welcome you back with open arms!
Bookworm120ParticipantAccording to Ramona Quimby, there’s something about a “dawnzer lee light…?”

July 2, 2014 10:12 pm at 10:12 pm in reply to: Marine park bike-like vehicles for rent: PROBLEM! #1021983Bookworm120ParticipantI like the idea of taking along a blanket to drape over the lap while pedaling these things. Might I also suggest getting leggings just to be on the safe side, too? (There are also sports skirts that have leggings sewn in, but I’ve never tried them so I can’t guarantee that they solve all the issues they’re trying to remedy.)
And I must say, in any case, riding a regular bicycle in most of the skirts made available to us is no fun. If a skirt’s too narrow at the knees, one can’t pedal, modestly or not, at all. Too loose and flared out, though, and the hem gets caught in the gears.

I step away from the CR for four hours and this update on the tragedy unfolds. I am WICKED angry at the monsters (that’s putting it mildly) who committed this heinous atrocity. My heart goes out to these innocent victims’ families.
I wish it didn’t take such a tragedy for such beautiful achdus to come about among our nation. I agree that we should keep it up regardless of the circumstances; then we’ll be even more worthy of rebuilding the third Beis HaMikdash.
June 30, 2014 5:19 pm at 5:19 pm in reply to: For the Jewish Metalhead (I know you're out there). #1023458Bookworm120ParticipantIn my opinion, what heavy metal (and its various subgenres) has become is simply awful noise. There’s the occasional artist who actually knows how to make discordant sounds and make it sound musical, but nowadays, most don’t.
I think the OP was simply saying, Rush is an example of a secular band where a member is Jewish; he wasn’t suggesting that Rush is categorized under the metal genre. Rush is and does rock. π
Bookworm120ParticipantAll I can say is, for those of you who want a change of the current scenery, mark your calendars for 2016.
Bookworm120ParticipantI don’t pretend. π
Bookworm120ParticipantWhy is this categorized under salad dressings? π
I probably would’ve given it back to the cashier, but if that wasn’t possible for whatever reason, maybe I’d donate it. But … is it mine to donate?
Bookworm120ParticipantI like coffee, but it makes my posts here in the Coffee Room seem way too animated. π
Bookworm120Participant@oomis – My grandparents, of blessed memory, did a ton of cooking and baking during their lifetimes. I think the secret ingredient that made everything they prepared taste so amazingly delicious was their unconditional, grandparently love. I guess it’s an ingredient a chef acquires with time and generations (literally). π
June 24, 2014 3:23 pm at 3:23 pm in reply to: Poll: When you read, how do you turn the pages? #1021257Bookworm120ParticipantF. π
I can tell you that I DON’T lick my fingers before I turn the pages. If I can’t get a good grip on a piece of paper, I just keep trying and get tons of papercuts. π
Bookworm120ParticipantMp3 Players with Radio = Lots of Static
Bookworm120Participant@Mod42 – I think I’ve finally figured out how to parse that.

Ditto! When I saw the video where R’Shteinman said that, he officially became my hero.
Bookworm120ParticipantHow about Wednesday the Second and Puglsey the First?
Bookworm120ParticipantI guess they want guests to have a full, square meal at the wedding seudah…. π
Bookworm120Participant@oomis – Yes I did! π
Bookworm120ParticipantBookworm120Participant@streekgeek – Well said. π
Bookworm120Participant@HaLeiVi – Hahaha! π
Bookworm120ParticipantHow about water?
Or apple juice?
Or hot chocolate?
Or iced tea?
Bookworm120Participant@Shopping – What answer did I give you in your previous life? π
Bookworm120ParticipantKugelpatra.
Before you start laughing at my taste in names, remember this – when Bnei Yisrael were dwelling in Mitzrayim, we commend them for not giving their children Egyptian names, so it just didn’t seem right to make up an 100% Egyptian name for myself!
Bookworm120Participant@rationalfrummie – It’s Hindi. π Kitabi is apparently “book” in Hindi, which makes sense, since the Hebrew word kotev (writing) is related to books…. It’s always cool to see how other languages may have been influenced by Lashon HaKodesh.
Bookworm120ParticipantMy Indian name is “Kit?b? k??? ?ka sau b?sa.”
My Native American name translates to “Worm who Reads too Much.” π
Bookworm120Participant@PulsingFlower – Harpo Marx was Jewish. π
Bookworm120ParticipantEver heard of a Jewish bookworm? π

May 29, 2014 5:49 pm at 5:49 pm in reply to: Photo Essay: Approximately 10,000 Women Attend Internet Asifa In Boro Park (?) #1018290Bookworm120ParticipantIt could be that no photos were taken of the women presumably attending out of modesty, and the shots of the empty chairs were taken before the event started…. Or, maybe no women attended live and watched it streaming from their homes, presumably out of modesty.
Bookworm120Participant….A song to sing. Nah, just kidding.
It all boils down to a want that all Jews to have unity with each other. I look forward to the day when it won’t just be my dream, but a dream come true.
Bookworm120ParticipantHappy CR birthday, Shopping! π
Bookworm120ParticipantI invited Queen Elsa over to my house. Soon enough, it began to snow in my den!
Bookworm120Participant@oomis – Well said. π
@notasheep – +1Bookworm120ParticipantHow could he be a she? No, don’t tell me. The final answer is, impossible.
Bookworm120Participant@Syag – Ingenious!
