    In Morocco (where part of my family is originally from)….there are many muslim families from Fez (called Fassis, who nowadays form Morocco’s social elite) who are halachically Jews and up until some decades ago,…still married only among themselves even though they were “officially” muslims. Some of these families still keep their old jewish names,…like Kouhen (from Cohen).

    Yes I’ve known many, but sorry to be honest,…the husband was usually “special”. Either wealthy, extremely charismatic, very learned, or something that set him apart from the average joe. Try to overcome your physical disadvantage by excelling in something that would make you “special” and raise your shidduch market value.

Guys (as long as they’re normal) are never worried about shiduchim,….they have a much broader choice and can get married at a later age. 5ft3 for a woman is OK! dont worry. My mother is as short as you and my father is of average height (5.10),…but we (the sons) are all over 6ft,…including one who’s quite big: 6ft4.

    You’re right, I should have said “the least antisemitic country in the MENA region”.

    My conclusion is that, the main factor behind muslim antisemitism isn’t Islam per se, but arabism. Albanians or Bengalis aren’t that anti-semitic simply because they can’t watch Aljazeera in arabic, can’t read the Arab press….and have zero contact with rabid mullahs from Saudi Arabia or Egypt.

    “Apparently not. It was the least anti-Semitic country in Europe and less anti-Semitic than any country in the Western Hemisphere.”

    What’t really interesting, is that only 5% of people in Sweden hold antisemitic views, even if the country has a large muslim immigrant population from the middle-east (10% of the population).

    I think Germany offers residency cards to Jews from Non-EU Eastern-Europe. However I heard that Israel complained to Merkel about the policy, since many Russians went back to Russia, destroyed their Israeli passport,…and applied for immigrant visas to Germany….so I’m not sure it’s still in effect.

    In Canada if they accepted the request of an extreme group like Lev Tahor,….I doubt they will refuse protection to normal people who are really persecuted for religious reasons.

    Those who can get a Polish, Romanian, Hungarian or German passport….can settle in London, Manchester or Antwerps where many Charedim live. The rest can seek asylum in Canada and the US (relatively easy if they’re persecuted for religious reasons).

    The Arabs if they had the opportunity to emigrate to the West, they would have done it long time ago, without waiting for harassment or severe persecution from the Israeli government. Besides Israel, would never let a large number of Muslim Arabs into the army.

    As to Frum yidden in EY, Rav Ovadia Yosef has already warned that there will be a mass exodus if IDF drafts yeshiva students.

    If they push the Hareidim too hard hundreds of thouands of them will emigrate to Europe (most of Ashkenazim are eligible for EU passports) and the US, rather than serving in the army and asimilating into the hiloni mainstream,….and that’s the worst case scenario for the secular government (losing the demographic war against the arabs).

    @akuperma

    (A serious problem develops in society’s with a liberal “welfare” state in that many individuals are content to live off their “entitlements”. This is becoming a very serious problem in Europe.)

    I don’t see it a problem as long as welfare is not a lifetime entitlement. The system has its loopholes (for some people and in some countries like Germany or Belgium, there is absolutely no incentive to work since one can get more by being on the dole than working for a minimum-wage). They simply must force professional welfare-recipients to work,…or else they lose all benefits.

    But honestly, for someone who wants to have a large family (like most religious Jews), Western Europe is the best place on earth, since you don’t have to worry about:

    -Yeshiva for your kids (religious schools receive public funds).

    -College (it’s free).

    -Healthcare (Free).

    plus

    -Paid maternal leave for up to 24 months.

    -Lots of benefits and incentives for large families (the problem number one in Europe is low birth-rates and population ageing),…regardless of income.

    @akuperma

    3. If you defined “employment” the way it is done in America, there would be almost no unemployment among Israeli hareidim.

    I agree with you, but the secular majority in EY don’t see it as you and me. For them religious studies are “worthless”,….and Charedim are “a problem” that need to be dealt with. This is pure bigotry.

    I have friends who gave me first-hand account of the lifestyle of the large community of young secular Israelis in Berlin—>Most of them are on Welfare,…and they enjoy it. Government gives them a a monthly allowance, and pays rent, utilities, transport, etc….for them. And all they do is “partying every night”. At least Charedim in EY,….study…they’re students not bums. They don’t party or claim to be “artisten”.
