weeeell… I’m actually in sem, baruch Hashem!!! and loving it! all’s quiet adn quite peaceful in my area… after hours and hours of intense talks between me and my parents, my parents and our rabbi, and lots n lots of prayers, i finally got the green light… (and the reason i’m online now is cuz we have vacation, so don’t ask me why i have internet access!) thanks for all your support…
awaitingdawnParticipantWe’re all crying…
Maybe we should observe the timing-this happened as Chodesh Elul was being heralded in and take a message- to do TESHUVA…
Amen! May we truly be zoche to greet Mashiach this year!!!
awaitingdawnParticipantIt’s very important. I had to spend half an hour on an information call explaining that my friend is a perfectly nice, normal, sweet Bais Yaakov girl even if she didn’t go to seminary. My friend’s parents are panicking because her original seminary plans fell through. They can’t afford it and don’t feel it’s so necessary, but they are pressured to get their daughter into sem because of shidduchim.
awaitingdawnParticipantGuys, I’m not the one scared of going! It’s my mom… and I’ve used most of these arguments already!!!I need some emotion-based arguments, not logical…but thanks!
awaitingdawnParticipantomg, it is so funny seeing how much the world changed in five years… and sad. who today is still fighting that teens shouldn’t have phones? and the phones today are mini computers… but worse cuz no one will look at them besides you, and you can go to sleep curled up with it. and today many in-town bais yaakovs have banned cell phones, which means that if you’re breaking the rule anyway, you many a time break it all the way and load your phone with every platform for falling…
awaitingdawnParticipantLook, I’m a sem girl and I have to agree with some posters: Having a smartphone is very different than having internet access on a computer or the like. It is very, very annoying to have friends with smartphones- their phones beep all the time and they instinctively look at it and end up replying or sharing. Not everyone, but most. If you’re marrying a girl with a smartphone, you should include the smartphone in the kesubah. I am NOT exaggerating, btw. Try holding a decent convo with a girl holding a smartphone and you’ll have to agree with me.
awaitingdawnParticipantWell, maybe as a subtle mussar lesson, “im eshkocaich Yerushalayim…” not to forget Jerusalem even during our gastrodelights!

Would your friend consider student loans? There are student loans with low interest rates, you don’t have to pay when you’re in school, and very easy payment plans.
