How do you know you’re in school for the right profession?
You don’t always know. But you can’t let that paralyze you to not make any decision professionally. If it becomes clear to you that your chosen field is not the right profession for you, move on and leave the experience behind you.
am yisrael chaiParticipantyiddishemishpacha, I so agree with you. He’s an artist and used his G-d-given talent to get out the pain not only for himself but for those who are able to emote through song but are not songwriters.
I can’t wait for the day when we see more threads like pba’s where we actually find the good in one another. R’ Levi Yitzchak ben Sarah Shosha mi’Berditchev was such a good example of this mida; we can only try to emulate him.
Forget about finding fault and criticizing others. None of us is perfect.
Let’s all attempt to find the glass half full, shall we?
I think this is what R’ Kletzky is trying to teach us all in his interview: ACHDUS.

You’re welcome. Good ol’ Murphy made sure that it would be the last of the threads presented…:)
ca
I tried the sticky you’re referencing and it didn’t bring up this thread. It’s happened before where the sticky did not work in finding a thread, and I’ve no idea why not.
I know Icot wrote somewhere a system that works, but I’m not sure where.
am yisrael chaiParticipantThanks, bpt, for including the day’s passage here.
I like to think of it as kosher/treif thoughts; one you can ingest and the other needs to be disposed of ASAP.
Goq, once again 🙂
kd, what a beautiful response, you could be a motivational speaker/writer! I’m sure people feel blessed to have met you and perhaps bpt will meet you, too, for Hashem works in mysterious ways.
Just how will you both know that it’s really the other, I’ve no clue…

I tried that but it didn’t come up.
It’s happened before where I was able to get it via google but not through the ywn search thread; I have no idea why.

And she did.
My classmate had to learn to cook & do laundry and graduated with these newly discovered skills.
August 10, 2011 8:50 pm at 8:50 pm in reply to: First and second generation of holocaust survivours #797403am yisrael chaiParticipantjmj614
It’s been said that people should get brachos by ANYONE who went through the war horrors & still retained frumkeit, no matter what type of lvush the survivor chooses.
So please run and get your brachos & get some for EVERYONE here in the CR.
There are known issues of children of survivors, to the point where the Bikur Cholim of Boro Park (718 438-2020) has a special unit devoted to this demographic. I’m sure there are others, too.
Some other traits common that kids of survivors speak of is the hypervigilance on the part of the parents, trying to make sure nothing is going to happen to their kid ch”v.
Another is that the parents save many things because of the massive deprivation suffered during their formative years. Children may have had to finish every last crumb on their plate.
It’s amazing that your dad, despite having been deprived of many basic things during wartime, did just the opposite with his family, making sure no one was deprived of anything. Think about it. Some people would say, “I didn’t have x growing up, why should you?” Because he wanted better for his kids.
He didn’t realize that either extreme is unhealthy. He did the best he could with what he knew.
We sooooooo cannot judge these people for the horrors they went through. They are amazing just in the fact that many want to continue living w/o suffering from major depression despite seeing many atrocities.

August 10, 2011 4:02 pm at 4:02 pm in reply to: What would you like to be when you grow up? #1045006am yisrael chaiParticipantGoq, that is sooooooooooooo painful. Wish I knew what to say to make it easier for you.
The only thing I can think of is that our neshama signs a “contract” before coming down to this world accepting all the challenges that it will go through. The neshama knows up there its tikun & how to best obtain it. It also prefers going through the hard stuff down here than up there. That’s part of why we’re supposed to bless Hashem for the tough stuff & not just the good (easier said than done).
Just have faith that you knew what you were doing before joining Planet Earth and that you had very good reasons for agreeing to it.
(You might think you were drunk up there accepting your lot in life but neshamos don’t drink…)
Hope this helps a little.

They were selling only CDs at the event. However, I just put in a call to someone affiliated with the CCHF & said they would let me know tomorrow be”H if they will sell the DVD now that the event is over.
am yisrael chaiParticipantI agree with pba (who’s the only poster at the time of writing/typing).
Now that we got that out of the way, just remember boundaries, consequences, and sholom bayis.
Kids are normal in that they will test the limits & boundaries. Parents need to teach the kids consequences of their actions. Tension in the atmosphere can encourage children to act out.
Consequences need to be age-appropriate. So a child may need to do simple “chores” to “pay” for the paint to refresh your bedroom door, e.g.
You may need to go over supermarket rules with your child before entering with the child and allow the child to buy a “reward” if the child successfully displays appropriate behavior.
Charts posted with stars and prizes given for positive behaviors work wonders.
Tzaar gidul banim, no one said it’s going to be easy.
And DON”T compare yourself to MS. PERFECT, because that’s just an illusion & image, besides putting yourself down.

When this old world gets me down
And there’s no love to be found
I close my eyes and soon I find
I’m in a playground in my mind
Where the children laugh and the children play
And we sing a song all day
“My name is Michael, I got a nickel
I got a nickel, shiny and new
I’m gonna buy me all kinds of candy
That’s what I’m gonna do”
See the little children
Living in a world that I left behind
Happy little children
In the playround in my mind
Oh the wonders that I find
In the playground in my mind
In a world that used to be
Close your eyes and follow me
Where the children laugh and the children play
And we sing a song all day
“My girl is Cindy
When we get married, we’re gonna have a baby or two
We’re gonna let them visit their grandma
That’s what we’re gonna do”

Perhaps you can succinctly explain why it’s ok to do name calling in the name of a “joke” when it is not only not allowed, it’s very juvenile. R Pam would cringe if he read about himself that he would “laugh” at the name calling one hurls indiscriminately to whomever. It’s like being in kindergarten with these threads of the same “theme.” Several posters were upset, one to the point of needing meds, and yet these posts continue to go through.
Many posters here have a sense of humor.
Name calling is not humorous.
It’s infantile.
And the ambiance of the CR is changing.
Awaiting your sage response.
