VIDEO: Dust Storm Swallows Phoenix Arizona

[INCREDIBLE VIDEO IN EXTENDED ARTICLE] A large dust storm rolling through the Phoenix area obscured visibility and created dangerous driving conditions Tuesday evening.

These amazing pictures show a wall of dust moving through the city. Sandstorms like this happen during the region’s monsoon season, which is underway. They occur over desert land and can reach thousands of feet into the air, spurred by strong winds. The dense cloud dramatically reduced visibility, grounding flights at a major airport and leaving thousands without electricity.

The storm traveled across much of the Valley at 30 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service. It originated near Tucson and reached metro Phoenix about 7:30 p.m.

  1. This is a sign from Shomayim that the Eibishter felt that Arizona needed a cleansing of some sort. The Yad of Hashem
can cause and has caused floods, tsunami’s,huricanes, tornado’s,volcano ash in the air. Ribono Shel Olom is sending us messages and we are not listening to them. May we see the geula shelayma in the near future. Amen

I will ask you as kindly as I can to please refrain from saying such a thing in the future. A person should not ascribe reason as to why Hashem is meting out what might be Din if you are assuming that people in Arizona deserved to be punished for whatever that reason might be.
Sometimes, punishments happen to good people for the aveiras of others or just to serve as a reminder that Hashem is in charge.

When we had the snowstorm this winter which in one shot shut NYC Jersey Boston and Baltimore for days (all centers of major Jewish communities) Would it not have been hurtful to hear a similar comment from someone else? The snowstorms were much more devastating disruptive and damaging then this dust storm, albeit not as interesting to look at. Acheinu kol Bais Yisrael. We must always remember to be Dan likaf Zechus, and may we be Zoche to have more pleasant reminders of Hashem in our everyday lives

As an aside, Phoenix has a wonderful Yeshiva Kollel many shuls and is complimented by the nearby community of Scottsdale. Phoenix also is one of the fastest growing communities in the west thanks to many California and Nevada transplants.

  3. A wake-up event does not have to a “punishment” from Hashem. It could simply a nudge to do something that needs to be done. For example, the Young Israel of Phoenix had a Sefer Torah stolen but then recovered quickly. Now this junior Maakas Choshech. Perhaps the first nudge wasn’t enough and a second one was needed.
