Two Bochrim drag racing down 13th Avenue, barreled through a red light, and collided with a vehicle driving down 52nd Street, early Sunday morning. Residents said the collision sounded like a bomb exploded – as a total of eight cars were struck. In the car driven by the Bochrim, police officers from the 66th Precinct found a loaded BB gun, and a “stolen” window placard from Boro Park Shomrim (see photos at link below).

Shame on the bachurim!
Shame on their parents!
Shame on their yeshivos!
Shame on all of us!
This is a chilum Hashem for which we will all be paying a high price.
Please define buchirim or bochirim or teenage boys…
why call them bochrim?? they should be refered to as loony leidigiers. racing down 13th ave with guns in the trunk. wonder what the have to say for themselves. perhaps chapping arein a blatt gemoro at that hour of the day would have yielded better results!! PARENTS: KNOW WHERE YOUR KIDS ARE AT ALL HOURS. EVEN THE BIG ONES.
“…..Cops Find Gun Trunk”
So YWN has stooped to the journalistic values of the National Enquirer? Cops find GUN????? It was a BB gun!!! I’m shocked and disappointed.
We are achro’i for all of our actions. Think before you do something with your mind and not your mouth. You cannot take take back. Hascholoso Taiva ve’sofo gaiva!!!
Boroparkscoop says there were no arrests. That’s too bad. The streets would be safer with these loonies locked up.
Whatever happened to our symbolic jewish etiquette? wherever we are in the supposedly best of communities we make sure to unfortunately make a loud Chillul Hashem. And then we wonder why we are still in golus.
I agree with #3. Calling them Bochurim implies that they are B’nei Torah, which does not appear to be the case.
Bochrim? at 4 in the morning? in they couldn’t sit down to learn shavous night at 4 am they def weren’t in a rush to learn in yeshiva, shame on these parents for being so naive, it’s so hard to believe that these parents go to sleep convincing themselves “not my kid” thinking that their kid is sound asleep getting ready for a full day of learning and mitzvos?!! OPEN YOUR EYES PARENTS, YES YOU EVEN THE ONES IN BORO PARK WHERE THE PROBLEM GETS WORSE NIGHT AFTER NIGHT!
Let me guess, the BB gun was planted, and doesn’t really belong to any of them
Stop blaming the parents. Who knows how helpless they are?
These boys need some jail time to learn their lesson.
Bb gun.
Not “gun”
Big difference.
Bad reporting.
Shameful behavior period, no excuses! If these fellows were members of another community all types of terrible names would be used. I beleive that poster #3’s comments covered this story very well.
hope pple from the other cars weren’t hurt too bad.
If these “bochurim” are part of shomrim, they should be dismissed immediately!!!
What a chilul Hashem!!!
i don’t care how old they are – their names should be made public – i would just feel badly for their families.
very good for their shidduch resume!
with all this damage that was done, how were ‘no arrests were made?! :/
Whatever the case is, did any of you who are so easily labeling these boys every speak to them?Do you know who they are? We live in a society that has a lot of problems that are unfortunately getting worse by the day. The question is are these boys in a daily Yeshiva setting? What type of family do they come from? Do the parents have any control or word by these boys? If they were in a Yeshiva were they thrown out or told “this Yeshiva is not for you but we have a Yeshiva that will take you in”?
About the shidduch resumes, it doesn’t count these days! Any father having a girl in shidduchim should check out any boy being redt even if he is a so called “great boy”. And if this great boy is in an overseas Yeshiva, have someone check him out while he is on the plane and watch his behavior there and what he is doing on the plane. On a recent trip where the boys and girls were returning home, the girls were learning and most of the boys were busy exercising their eyes on what was available on the screen in front of them!
Oish, some of you really sound naive. Yeshiva?? Parents?? Do you know what you are talking about?
I wonder, though, why they got the title ‘bochurim’. They are never referred to as such in other settings. I never hear of bochurim-at-risk.
If a BB gun is legal, why is it a find? In fact, why is it allowed to be publicized?
— a bb gun can also do a lot of harm and they are also illegal
— this incident only adds fuel to the fire as to why their is so much anti-semitism – especially against the orthodox, whether they are yeshivish, chassidish, m.o., others se us as ‘those jews’
to #15
To really do a good shidduch the father has to have spent time in Otisville.
I’m with #12. Terrible reporting. I would’ve expected more from YWN. Adjust the article title!
Other than that, you can all start judging as soon as you find yourselves sitting on Kise Hakavod. Till then, close your mouths and thank Hashem as you obviously don’t have similar troubles with your own children.
How could you say ” shame on the parents”? do you have any idea what these poor parents go through every single day?? You should never know!!!!!
To #1 shame on the parents? why do you know that they cry every night in bed for hours about there children. shame on their yeshivas? how much time and money did thei parents spend to finaly put them in yeshivas how much mechanchim tried to be them mechnech and they wouldn’t be sucsesfull. why are you blaming them. do you know how much tzarois and bad things happend to the teenagers so they look like this now? all tadin chavaircha ad shetagiah limkoimoi!!!
Sorry folks but if they are not married, they ARE bocherim. Whether they are yeshiva bocherim or frum bocherim is a different question. Twenty years ago when it wasnt fashionable for the chasidish velt to learn past high school age like it is now, were they not considered “bocherim?”
to all of you who are saying we don’t know these boys, and never spoke to them, and don’t know their personal struggles, lives… it does not indicate here that they were problem kids or anything! it just says bochurim. bochurim should have known better than to be drag racing down 13th avenue (or anywhere for that matter). i would even understand if they were problem kids who didn’t care, or were trying to prove that they could do it, but kids who are titled BOCHURIM do not do (or should not do) stupid things like this. bnei torah does not mean they sit and learn torah (which these kids weren’t doing at the time anyway) it means boys who act according to the ways of the torah, in ways Hashem would be proud of. i doubt drag racing is on Hashems list of “good things ppl can do to merit reward”
Stop making negative comments about these boys they need help and what did the community do to help them? Stop making fun of them, you wouldn’t be talking like this if it was your child.
#24, בחורים means “boys,” and if it is the Hebrew language which you are using, it has nothing to do with marital status.
Nevertheless, I would commend to the attention of both married and single drivers the Vehicle and Traffic Law, particularly § 1182 which makes speed contests, a/k/a “drag racing” a misdemeanor as well as § 1212 which does the same for reckless driving.
#1 is correct; it is indeed a Chilul Hashem. Where did they learn that this type of behavior is proper?
Let’s not even discuss the issues of weapons possession.
WOW a Loaaaaded BB gun, thats just terrible
To Ms. Critique who may always know the answers correctly says (#17)
A good way to size up a bachur is to talk to his chavrusa, and even better to his room mates.
To #23 (bsimcha tamid)
So according to you, these bachurim were born like this, with a driver’s licenses and owning cars. Where were their parents and rebbis as they were growing up and were acting more and more unruly and violent? Go into a mainstream yeshiva and see what’s going on during limudei chol! It’s a zoo. There is no fear or respect of the teacher. Many public schools do better.
These hooligans give Shomrim a bad name & this kind of behavior just supports all their critics. Unfortunately, the many good deeds Shomrim does get forgotten when these crazy things happen.
to #30
i don’t know why you picked on limudei chol, i teach in yeshivas and have seen ‘yeshiva boys’ answer back rebbeim worse than some of my public school students answered back – there is a complete lack of derech eretz – the yeshivas must teach ‘responsiblity’ for one’s actions – “derech eretz kadma l’Torah”
OY VEY, IT HURTS ALOT. THE ACCIDENT HURTS, THE INJURIES HURT, THE MONETARY DAMAGE HURTS ETC……
BUT WHAT HURTS MORE THAN ALL THAT IS THE WAY SOME OF US CAST AWAY THE ‘BOCHURIM AT RISK’. GEVALD GESHRIGEN!! WHY SHOULD WE CALL THESE SHVACHE BOCHURIM WHO ARE STRUGLING MORE THAN WE WILL EVER KNOW, WHY SHOULD WE JUST CAST THEM ASIDE AS ‘KIDS’? NO! THEY ARE OUR HEILIGEH NESHAMOS, TIEREH KINDDER WHO HAVE FALLEN PREY TO THE NISYONOS OF THE DOR. YES THEY ARE BOCHURIM! THEY ARE OUR BOCHURIM THEY ARE ‘BOCHURIM AT RISK’!!! ‘BOCHURIM IN TRUBBLE’.
PLEASE, PLEASE, IF YOU THINK YOU CAN BE MASHPIA ON EVEN ONE OF THEM, TRY IT. I WISH YOU SUCCESS!!!
GO TO A SMALL SHUL ON 16TH AVE BETWEEN 49 & 50, SEE WHAT ‘REBBE’ DOES FOR THESE TIEREH BOCHURIM – KINDDER. GO THERE TAKE A CHEILEK, BE A PART OF IT!! IT’S MAMSH UNBELIEVABLE HOW HE IS MECHAZEK EACH ONE OF THEM.
NOW IN THE SUMMER, THE ‘WOODBURN SHUL’ IS THE SAME WAY, CHECK IT OUT.
#1 SHAME ON THOSE THAT DON’T UNDERSTAND.
#3 & 9 PARENTS KNOW VERY WELL WHERE THE BOCHURIM ARE, AND THEY CRY THEIR EYES OUT TO HASHEM.
#8 HEILIGE danielb43 DID YOU EVER DO ANYTHING STUPID IN YOUR LIFE? WEREN’T YOU STILL A YRSHIVA BOCHUR?
#11 I AGREE WITH YOU!!!!!
#15 Invey haGEFEN DON’T WE HAVE ENOUGH PROBLEMS WITH SHIDUCHIM? WHY SHOULD THEIR BROTHERS AND SISTERS SUFFER? WHY SHOULD THESE BOCHURIM SUFFER SUCH SHAME PUBLIC SHAME? IS THAT WHAT YOU THINK IS RIGHT??
#17 – 21 – 22 – 23 & 26 YOU ALL SAID IT VERY WELL!!
HASHEM YERACHEM!!
So what’s your eitza A Giteh Yid? To give any idiot who failed in the yeshiva the car key to bring distruction in other people’s lives, destroy property, and the good name of the Jews? Are you saying no one is responsible? Things don’t just happen. If a minority did what these bachurim did, you call them shegetz. If it’s your bachurim you call them tzadikim at risk. Maybe you share with us how you earned your name of “A Giteh Yid”?
YWN – seriously??
“Cops find gun in trunk”
Is this the NY Times where we have to manipulate stories and headlines??
This is suppose to be YESHIVA news – It’s unfortunate enough that these incidents occur, the least we can do as mature honest Jews is tell it how it is and finish.
“Cops find gun in trunk”
for all those who don’t know yet, it was a BB gun “loaded” with plastic BB’s
i agree with the dissenters the headlines got to me. but if you take a extra second to think theyre just another set of boys being boys being hooliganistic NOT BOCHURIM!!
And they happened to own a bb gun as part of their routine it isnt as sinister as it sounds and its a blessing from hashem that it wasnt much worse!
to # 30 first of all i’m still now a yeshiva bucher age of 19 and i am learning lemudai kodesh and lemudai choil we all have the greatest respect for the magid shiur and for the teachers. and i was already in 3 yeshivas and i dont know what your talking about. were did you ‘learn’??? and do you mean to say that every ba’al avairah’s father is guilty for his sins?? they tried hard to be them mechnech and it didn’t go never heard of a ben soirer umoireh?
and now a word to yw moderator-20 (# 11) ‘these boys need som jail to learn their lesson’ do you know the halachah in shu”a that puyon shvuyim is even for a guilty person? and if there is even only 1 sefer torah in the whole town it must be sold in order to release them from prison!!! and all pe torah they are only mechuyiv to pay the nezek. whats with “yeshiva world” forgot all halachos learnd in yeshiva “DA’AS BA’AL HABAYIS HEPICH DA’AS TORAH”
#39, (bsimcha tamid), hey, what about the halacha of “dinei d’malchusa?” Is there a heter for drag racing and reckless driving in Borough Park?
