NBC and CBS have reportedly refused to air an advertisement urging people to “kill” the idea of a proposed mosque near ground zero.
The advertisement, sponsored by the National Republican Trust PAC, features a narrator speaking over images of Sept. 11 destruction and stating the mosque would be a “monument to their victory”
The narrator of the advertisement concludes the one minute spot by urging viewers to “join the fight to kill the Ground Zero mosque.”
An NBC official said the company didn’t take issue with the commercial’s content, but raised questions about the vague reference to “their” in the ad. The official said the ambiguity of the words “their” and “they” made it unclear whether the ad was referring to terrorists or to the Islamic groups — including the American Society for Muslim Advancement and the Cordoba Initiative — who are sponsoring the mosque’s construction.
Representatives from ABC and Fox said they didn’t know whether the advertisement was submitted to their networks.
