One question this news bite begs is: Why have all the efforts to tighten US borders failed over the 21 years since Bill made his remarks. One possible answer, with which I do not agree, is that neither our current president nor his predecessors have “really” tried.
Anther possible answers: the amount of effort to close our borders is so enormous that it cannot counterbalance the desirability of coming to America, even on an undocumented, illegal, second-class basis.
So, what do we do now? I suggest we consider finding a way to let those here already stay (convicted felons excepted). “Illegals” who were born here – let them stay, they were “brought” here through no fault of their own.
And has anyone asked: if the Mexican government does not pay for that wall, is it worth building?
