very true! And can be applied to many other motsi shem raa rumors on especially public servants; since they have many pple that know them and would want to take revenge out on them. The video is wrong. The primary problem here isn’t lashon harah.
The primary problem here is the community itself. It seems to be made up of people who are
– busybodies (whose business is it what the Rebbe or anyone else in the community buys at the butcher>)
– judgmental (because you eat chicken the Rebbe isn’t entitled to ever eat anything better?)
– selfish (heaven forbid that someone else actually have something that they, themselves don’t have)
— unable to be dan l’kaf z’chus
— superficial in their understanding of what makes someone moral (the Rebbe isn’t a good role model because he bought a rack of lamb?)
— idle (really? In half an hour all these people have nothing better to do than bash someone online?)
— gossip mongers (well, it is a part of the problem, but clearly not the most important part. If the people in the community didn’t have the above traits, this last bit wouldn’t matter as much).
Lashon Harah is not the real problem here. The real problem is the attitude of the people in this community.

I agree with WolfishMusings that the busybodies should not be concerned with what the Rebbe buys at the butcher. It’s none of their blazing business. If the Rebbe can afford pricey meat they should be happy for the Rebbe — not jealous, which is another aveira they’ve committed. Since when must Rebbeim be paid low wages and be unable to afford better meat that only these crazy busybodies can buy? Do they never but better food? The Rebbe has every right to be able to afford and but better items regardless of what it is. And it is no ones business how he’s able to afford it. And if the yeshiva is paying him well — then Baruch Hashem!

if its not a true story then the author of the video is guilty of lashon hara on klal yisroel. or maybe motzie shem rah because i believe such a thing would never happen and its all from certain people who like to use scare tactics.
It may be powerful to make a point but how true to life is it? Has anyone heard of a rebbe’s reputation being destroyed over a purchase in a butcher store, or any other petty purchase? I agree with The Wolf’s points. I live in a large frum community and exposed to a lot of people but never have I heard anything of this sort about anyone or anything remotely close to this.

#3 is letting YWN off the hook pretty quickly. While I agree that the news section is OK I am celebrating my one year anniversary away from the loshon hora and sinas chinom laden CR. I encourage fellow readers to join me and leave the cave. You’ll enjoy the sunshine. Likewise, YWN should abandon this den of hooligans bashing everyone in sight. YWN minus the CR would be a breath of fresh air.
We let ourselves be controlled by a few bloggers and site admin’s who care about nothing other the getting site views in order to up their Google Adwords payments. These guys will post almost anything to get more visitors and they do it while claiming to be fixing the community. how we let ourselves be controlled by some weirdos sitting at a keyboard is beyond me.
For all those curious, I have seen this happen with my own eyes. It does happen and the video is almost exactly how the chain of events goes, just the setting is different. I would also note that in the video we see this happening due to actions by people with no malicious intent, just imagine how bad it is when there is malicious intent…. It Happens. A Lot. Its Terrible.
BTW I should note that in this regard YWN is outstandingly a cut above and they know how to keep their blog/site profitable without being gossip and hate mongers… Dans Deals would be another example of a site that manages to be profitable without stooping down to gossip and rumors
