Instead of responding with kapos or worse, why don’t they release the boys or at least have a court case? Do they really think these daily protests will stop before they’re all released?
#1- Never ever release them, and please arrest every single Peleg rosh yeshiva as well, and never ever release them either. And shut the Hapeles newspaper down for instigating and encouraging violence and arrest Nati Grossman and the rest of the reshoyim. And arrest the animals who made the phone recordings this morning calling on these children to shut down the roads and leave everyone stuck in gridlock. Ambulances can’t take patients to the hospital because of Rav Shmuel Auerbach.
This is beyond rishis of unheard of proportions.
Its refreshing to see the police using some minimal force to disperse these hooligans but why so sparingly?? They need to start at the top and drag the leadership of the Peleg crazies into jail for yom tov or maybe longer. The country cannot give in to this type of anarchy orchestrated by some mindless leaders and askanim who have no clue as to the chaos being done in their names.
Pray tell me where to “mainstream” gedolim are to be found? Why no mechoah?
The police should use more force.
Now that it’s bain hazmanim things will just get worse. They should arrest all the instigators.
Stop giving $$$$
I wonder how many of these protesters are chutzniks who are not going home for pesach and are bored with nothing to do.
All I see here is the reason why our Beis Hamikdash was burned down. Jews can’t behave properly and would rather kill each other over different opinions – ala burning down the grain storehouses in Yerushalayim during the siege before Churban Bayis Sheini.
They are making the entire city pay, because their Rebbe doesn’t want to follow the law that has been in place for many, many years and every other Yeshiva follows? How does this make any sense?
#6 Rav Auerbach’s yeshiva does not take money from the govt. Boys in that yeshiva and all yeshivos who do not take money from the govt should not be drafted at all. PERIOD!
Let them draft the secular “elite” college students who are well paid and dodge the draft with all kinds of excuses. And let them draft Arabs who are well funded too.
Why is every 3rd headline about peleg yerushalmi
This behavior on the part of these kids is truly disgusting
What does not taking yeshiva financing from the government have to due with being drafted
They did receive education in isreal get free medical services Nd other funding. Sorry you r wrong. But to stop these wasteful demonstrations put every one caught into basic training as foot soldiers
Do the Peleg get aid and assistance from the government? If yes, then stop it immediately. They are traitors, causing chaos and disharmony.
To all critics: Where’s your ahavas yisroel? Instead of criticizing, how about joining the protests in order to stop drafting Yeshiva boys to the Shmad Army once and for all, especially those who are sitting and learning, and especially from those yeshivos who are not govt funded.
Arye, if they simply registered and received their deferment, there wouldn’t be a pro lem
Aryeh, they aren’t being drafted. They just have to show up once to get their deferment, which they get automatically. This is how it always was. Rav Schach was okay with it, as were all the gedolai Roshai Yeshivos.
The vast majority of today’s Roshai Yeshivos are okay with it as well. All the Rebbes; Belz, Vishnitz and Ger bochrim go to get their deferments.
Why is Rav Shlomo Zalman’s son different?

So sad that ‘we’ have stooped so low.

I don’t know anything about the protests but people can’t seriously ask someone religious to go to the army in Israel. Isn’t that common sense?
Kolleman how can you force someone religious to join the Israeli army!
I can solve the problem 100% make the government in Israel religious and the army religious then the people can join the army!
“Never ever release them”
Now that’s rishus, Ferd.
‘Kolleman how can you force someone religious to join the Israeli army!’
Agreed. The army is culturally the opposite of Torah and these boys are not needed in the army. So this whole thing is a farce on the part of the government.

Ferd this has nothing to do with Rav Shmuel Auerbach. This is NOT with his blessing these children just don’t listen.
These children are not sitting and learning. They are stealing peoples time. The police should decide once and for all to break up these illegal demonstrations with extreme force. Maybe that will put a stop to those few crazies holding the rest of us to ransom. And #2 is right, start the arrests at the top. The police could do worse than summon Rabbi Orbach for an interview next Sunday. No the country will not close down because of it and if the Peleg children want to demonstrate more because their leader has been summoned for questioning, let them be greeted by more police on horses, swinging batons and backed up by water cannon and vans ready to cart them all off to jail for Pesach.

You state that this is a “law” that has been in place for many, many years”
Maybe you can explain under what mechanism any Jew is obliged to follow such a law, there is no Dina D’malchusa Dina in EY (see the Ran in Nedarim) and there is no melech.
To coolcool48
In most cases, it has nothing to do with the army being “religious” since they’ve also said no to proposals for alternative public service where they would have to serve for a year or two working in schools, hospitals, public buildings etc. with no concerns about tzinius, kol isha etc. in lieu of the army. Instead, these useless hooligans are lazy and selfish and want someone else to assume the burdens of defending the medinah while they hide behind a shtender and pretend they are shteiging, except when they are out on the streets seting fires in dumpsters, blocking traffic and throwing dirty diapers at rabbonim and askanim who don’t agree with their anarchy.
Here is the solution. Lets stop the draft for everyone. This way Hamas or the PA can take over. I am sure they will treat all of the Jews fairly and with compassion and will allow all of these Yeshivas to function uninterrupted, just like we’ve been treated for the last 2000 years.
#23 I don’t want to force anyone to join the army. The army is not religious, and shows utter disregard, disrespect and disdain for religious soldiers, regardless of what they claim to the opposite. However, every other yeshiva is following the law and submitting deferral papers while students are learning. R’ Auerbach apparently has his own opinion not to do follow those agreements. This is violating the prior agreements with Yeshivos as well as violating the law, by causing draft-dodging. The army is within the law to arrest draft-dodgers. What is trying to be accomplished here, is a small minority trying to change government policy without electing officials – but through protests. They are also risking their own lives and the lives of others in the process. What gives them this right? I have no idea. What gives them a right to steal the public’s time? No idea. I’m horrified and embarrassed by their behavior. If this was in NYC under Giuliani, thousands would have been in jail for being in the streets. Protest on the sidewalk!
Coolcon, please get your facts straight. They are Not being drafted. As in the past they are required to register but then they get an automatic deferment. They get arrested as draft dodgers only if they don’t register
The patience which the drivers’ exhibit by not running them over (and then reversing) is very commendable.
Amazing how some people here are claiming it’s the way of Rav Shach and the Chazon Ish. With such a shallow כח הסברא these people cannot learn straight anyway…
And calling a fellow yid who’s trying to return a stolen road to the public “Nazi” doesn’t leave any doubt in my mind that these people cannot learn a straight word of Torah and have no יראת שמים at all.
Stop comparing it to the fight about גיוס בנות etc. This is about showing up and filling out a piece of paper. That’s all.
This title is linkbait. I don’t see those people sitting in front of cars “enjoying” themselves. It’s no fun to be threatened, beaten up, spat on and yanked. They beleive they need to cause a total rukus in order to prevent bochurim being arrested for evading registering for the draft. They may be wrong, but this isn’t fun and YWN should take a less biased line.
kollelman, were you asleep the past 10 years? The law on the draft has been going under seismic changes, most of it aimed at recruiting bochurim into the army (the Shaked committee, Plesner proposals, etc etc). Currently if the army don’t manage to get their quota of recruits, there will be wholesale recruitment of chareidim in 2020.
And I’m pretty sure before the expiration of the Tal law, noone had to register while still in the yeshiva years, it was automatic based on student lists submitted by Yeshivos. Correct me if I’m wrong. The suspicion he has always been that they would like 80% chareidi conscription as was the stated gold during 2012-2014 when Yesh Atid had power, and Bayit Yedhudi sold their souls.
Unfortunately the endless proliferation of anti-religious measures in the idf means that Peleg’s position is becoming increasingly strengthened, and the worst fears of the whole recruitment argument appear to be realised. Much of the blame less with those that refused for years to protest the moral degradation of the IDF which means that any chareidi, learning or not, cannot serve.
FERD:
Ambulances can’t take patients to the hospital because of Rav Shmuel Auerbach.

Kishmo Kach Hu!! Who on earth do you think you are, to talk about Hagaon Hatzadik R’ Shmuel Aurbach like that? About you that Rambam paskens מורידין ולא מעלין.
Please be careful before talking against צדיקים יסודי עולם!!
I am really surprised at the commentators here being so angry at these protestors, that you are inciting violence against them, especially while the protesters are fully peaceful and haven’t hurt a fly.
When one commentator asked only for Ahavat Israel, another responded with a curse that his shalom bait and family are destroyed.
Why are you so angry at the protestors? Do you not realize the dangers of drafting in the Army? All of Israeli haredim came together to oppose it. As a personal anecdote, ALL (every single one, not an exaggeration, really ALL) of my friends went to the IDF, and only one in five remained religious after release. True, Rav Auerbach decided to make his line at going to medical tests and signing a deferral, and not at a slightly later stage of actual draft, but perhaps he has his reasons. Maybe it has something to do with “Foot in the Door” psychological technique that the Army uses, maybe it is because signing the deferral is not simple, as it is a promise that you WILL enlist when required, a promise that no haredi intends to keep. Whatever Rav Auerbach’s reasons, why be so angry at his decision.
Seriously, if anyone of you is still posting, try to take 5 minutes, and explain to me CALMLY why you feel so much anger at the protestors
Do you see Yeshiva boys sitting and learning? To them this is sport. They are laughing. The army would teach them rules and
work ethic.
These bums need the army.
This video has a lady in a mini skirt standing next to the yeshiva students and pleading with them to get up. Does Rabbi Aurbach know that his holy students are sitting 2 inches away next to a lady with a mini skirt. Maybe it would be a fair thing to let Rabbi Aurbach get a complete picture. Maybe if Rabbi Aurbach gets the complete picture, things will change, Rabbi Aurbach I am sure does not want his students on a daily basis to see all kinds of women out there that are dressed in a way that is completely different than the women in his Kehila. option: 1 : Go into a Bais Medrash and open up a Gemara——option 2: sit on the street and fight with all kinds of ladies and girls from so many different backrounds.
I saw a post above about disabled people blocking the entrance to Ashdod .I was gratified to see that there were no angry commenters wishing for them to be murdered for their “gezel d’rabim” and the ambuances which they prevented from going through. I wish that people would behave the same to these Jews – even if they learn Torah
#44: But why do you wish to saddle the army with these ‘bums?’ Do you think the IDF wants or needs such guys? Is army service a “privilege” or a punishment?
#42- Ephraim- It seems like you don’t live here. If that’s the case, or if you don’t live in a chareidi area like I do, than you can’t understand completely the intolerance we, well-behaved chareidim, have for those who disrupt our (and thousands of other’s) lives on an almost daily basis without warning. You can sit it traffic while hooligans sit on your hood, bang on your car and dance and laugh in a disgusting, mocking fashion as if you are responsible for their plight (which was what again? Having to sign up and then go back to learning peacefully like the rest of us?) People’s lives have potentially been at risk for not being able to get through their human barricades, ppl. have missed important appts, have not been able to get to family simchas on time, and various other inconveniences. They make us look horrible with their hooliganism. If they’d stand on the side of the road and say tehillim maybe it’d be more effective. Or maybe if they’d protest opposite the Knesset- NOT where they’re cutting off their collective noses to spite their faces and ours by disrupting life in their own neighborhoods! Do they really think the police care? Or the government? They’re causing their own to despise them, and certainly no progress has been made in the process or they’d have stopped the demonstrating, unless you call it progress that one of their bochurim will be spending 56 days in jail- including Pesach. (Poor guy- he had to be the korban. Maybe now someone will think twice) I could go on and on, but I hope this is calm enough of a response for you.

People’s lives have potentially been at risk for not being able to get through their human barricades, ppl. have missed important appts, have not been able to get to family simchas on time, and various other inconveniences.
These hooligans are very “frum”. So is my cat.
