Thousands of people gathered at Kikar Shabbat to protest against the transferring of the authority of Meron to the State of Israel under the control of the Minister of Tourism. Many rabbonim and gedolim were present at the event, including Rabbi Yaakov Hillel, who delivered a moving address to the crowd. Who exactly would have authority over the holy site, which draws hundreds of thousands during Lag Ba’Omer, has been a point of contention in recent years.
