Current GOP frontrunner Newt Gingrich referenced a popular against President Obama this weekend during a speech in Naples, Florida. Challenging the President to a series of Lincoln-Douglas style debates, Gingrich told the crowd “If he (President Obama) wants to use a teleprompter, that would be fine with me.”
“I already said that if he wants to use a teleprompter, then it would be fine with me. It has to be fair. If you [were] to defend ObamaCare, wouldn’t you want a teleprompter?” Gingrich asked.
“Now, in just for a second I’m going to go in the detour and I’ll try to explain why I’ve been and he’ll say yes. There are two reasons. The first, is either. Can you imagine him looking in the mirror? Graduate from Columbia, Harvard Law, editor of the Law Review journal. [Against] the greatest articulator in a Democratic book?”
“How is he going to say that he’s afraid to be on the same podium as a West Georgia College student?”

Obama has nothing to gain and everything to lose from a debate, so he will was every stalling tactic available, most prominently (and reasonably) that he will wait until the GOP picks a candidate and debate him rather then “waste time” debating every hopeful. He would have to pray that Gingrich is not nominated because that is the one person in the roster he cannot debate, and no telepromter will completely cover up though it can help. It’s shameful-a speach is one thing, but to use a telepromter in a debate is to admit that he simply doesn’t have confidence or direction as to what his own policies and opinions are.
Democrats do not debate Republicans during the primaries. That would have to wait until after the convention.
It should be noted that Lincoln and Douglas were friends. They had known each other for years, and had at one point gone after the same girl (Lincoln won). It is unlikely that Gingrich and Obama would have the necessary raport for such a debate.
Go Mr Newt!!
Signed,
Still dont know for whom I want to vote
