Republican Bob Turner was officially sworn in today as the representative from New York’s 9th Congressional District.
The 70-year-old retired media executive took the oath of office from House Speaker John Boehner.
After being introduced by Congressman Peter King, Mr. Turner began thanking the speaker and Mr. King – but had not yet been “recognized” to begin his short speech.
“Thank you Mr. Speaker, thank you Congressman King, thank you Congressman Rangel”, Turner began.
He was then interrupted by Speaker Boehner’s voice saying “the gentleman from New York, Mr. Turner is recognized”, – to which the entire room erupted in thunderous laughter.
The minor blunder was taken in good spirits, and quite understandable, being that Turner has been a businessman, and never before stood at that podium.
After becoming a member of the House, Turner said his grandchildren gave him the drive to fight every day.
“It’s with true humility I accept this awesome responsibility and and I pledge not to forget how I got here, it was a true bipartisan effort which is how you do it in New York City and I also promise not to forget why I’m here,” Turner said.

he shouldn’t forget who got him where he is
If he does he’ll suffer the same fate as Weprin
Congratulations to the districts for using their common sense in this election. Please don’t forget to do the same in the Presidential election.
We need more businessman in Washington, not career politicians.
