A French court fined a comedian for suggesting that Jews were slavers.
Dieudonne Mbala Mbala faced controversy because of a sketch in which he donned Orthodox Jewish clothing and gave a Nazi salute. He was cleared last September of incitement charges related to that sketch, but was fined more than 5,000 Euros for a 2004 interview with the Journal de Dimanche in which he said, Those who attack me founded their fortunes on the trade in blacks and slavery. The court said the statement was an attack on Jews. In addition to his fine, he was ordered to pay a symbolic one Euro to several Jewish and anti-racism groups.
