Cleveland: Pesach blizzard 5767

770 cleveland.jpgHeavy snow began falling in Cleveland, Ohio on the second day of Yom Tov and has yet to stop! Over two feet has fallen so far and more is on the way. This is the biggest Pesach storm Cleveland has seen in a long time.

  1. Who could believe that the day before it started it was 80 DEGREES!!! Feels like Chanuka A FREILECHEN CHANUKAH Happy shoveling

  2. Ayome V’noira! Sledding on Chol Hamoed! If it weren’t for a Borai Olam being in charge, this would be unpleasant. But it’s His storm. We’re foolish to be bothered.

    Positive:

    It is beautiful!
More time to learn (after we’re done shovelling)!
    Less pritzus!

The same Borai Olam who split the Yam has taken Lake Erie and held it over Cleveland!

  3. The more we hear from the meshuginas about global warming (a figment of imagination!) HKBH sends us COLDER and more mudna weather.

  4. To set the record straight, we had one of these 2 years ago. Before that it had been a long time since we had such weather on Pesach. We are thankful for the oportunity for the extra sechar we earned going to shul in this.

  5. Mark Levin,
The global warming ‘experts’ will tell you with a straight face that unusually cold weather is as much a result of global warming as hot weather is, because according to them global warming causes ‘unusual’ weather patterns. As if there hasn’t been unusual weather patterns since the beginning of time. You can’t win with these bozos. Just remember this global warming religion, which by the way is apparently happening on Mars as well, the next time you read about their theory for how life started from nothing.

You know, global warming may be happening, or may not be, I don’t know. But I let those who are professionals in the field argue it out. I certainly wouldn’t consider myself knowledgable enough to actually have an opinion in the matter. You, however, must have done extensive research for many years to come out with a blanket statement that all those who believe global warming is happening are “meshuginas”.

  7. Rodef Shalom,
Maybe he can’t have an opinion IF global warming is happening, but we can all have an opinion if HUMANS are causing it. I have not heard anything that makes sense yet that humans are the cause. There has ALWAYS been warming and cooling on this planet long before it could have possibly been caused by humans. In fact, just a short 30 years ago they were warning about global COOLING. A little skepticism is definitely in order here, like maybe following the money trail-who is getting grant money out of all this? And by the why, I have no bone in this argument here either-I would love it if we would stop buying Arab oil, I’m just questioning the motivations here.

That is an entirely different point and a different discussion. I was addressing an attitude, namely that those who have devoted years of study to these subjects are deemed “mushuginas” because their findings may not jive with some guy’s pre-conceived notions. It’s kind of embarrasing to read, frankly.

  9. The global warming issue is almost entirely a political one. You will be hard pressed to find a right-winger who is swayed by the arguments “for” or a left-winger backing the arguments “against”. Since “being a conservative” is in vogue nowadays for the frum (a statement of fact, not a political statement), most frum people feel they must denounce global warming. However…

Global warming itself is nearly a universally accepted fact. Empirical data shows us that the temperature of the earth is rising. What is up for discussion, as someone mentioned, is whether this is natural or caused by human activity. Basically, the people who get paid full time salaries by profitable corporations “find” evidence that human activity is insignificant to the process and those who are paid full time salaries by rights groups and non-profits “find” evidence that humans are to blame.

The relation to weather is as follows. Global warming leads to unusual weather, and particularly -extreme- temperatures of both hot and cold. If you imagine ice caps melting, then the next step is to imagine all that melted (nearly freezing) water mixing in with the oceans. I’m sure that everyone will agree that when such a thing happens, it causes the temperature of the oceans to become colder at first in some places and drop overall. The differential in ocean temperature causes what is called a weather front and leads to storms/tsunamis etc. This is large scale so you can’t mock up a trial version in your water glass with an ice cube to see what happens. Consequentially, it is difficult to prove or disprove.

Who cares? Do you think Hashem can’t handle global warming? Do you think He can’t destroy the world without it? I never understood the point of the issue to the frum world. Is it just to mock others that we like to have an opinion? Could someone enlighten me please?

  10. Reminder – About 24 years ago about 2 days before Pesach N.Y. had a tremendous snow storm also. I was stuck in the airport sleeping on the floor with my kids for 2 days!

  11. When i first bruoght up the subject of “global warming” i hope the olam was aware i was being sarcastic. You too, Rodef Shalom, the whole thing is political.
