Arson doubted in Neturei Karta Shul fire

Fire officials have reversed their initial suspicions of arson in the fire of the Neturei Karta Shul in Monsey, and now think that a gas or electrical problem may have ignited the blaze. The Shul was burned to the ground Sunday night, and the fire initially was linked to several threatening phone calls. The three Sifrei Torah were recovered undamaged from a safe in the building.

  1. Best possible outcome:

    1) No one hurt.
    2) Sifrei Torah saved.
    3) The “house of evil” was destroyed.

    Hashem’s handiwork.

  2. to modern orthodox the house of evil was destroyed but not the evildoers. the house will be rebuilt probaly bigger and better we have to get rid of the evildoers- not the house of evil

  3. ‘The fire was intially linked to several threatening phone calls’
Isnt that a sign of ‘foul play’?

Why was the theory of Arson reversed???

  4. it is interesting that the ‘house of evil’ of NK bothers you more than a ‘house of evil’ of the reform or conservative massorti. y”sh. they did far worse to yiddishket especially and jews on the whole than NK have ever done. i.e intermarriage, children who hate their heritage, people who get high influential jobs & don’t mind being against jewish heritage to cover up the jewish blood that runs in their veins & can be used against them.
the only difference is that NK ruins the PR & reform doesn’t. that’s disgusting.

  5. ‘……..’house of evil’ of NK bothers you more than …of the Reform and conservative’

Reformers dont represent Orthodox Jews, the NK do! How do you compare it?
oFCOURS ITS MORE DISGUSTING FOR Mr. Friedman to attend a rally in Berlin on Shabbos, mingling and sypathizing with our enemies.

For Jews clothed in Chassidish garb to stand in front of Arafat’s tomb and say Kaddish is reprehensible. For them to take front row seats at a conference just to listen to HATE TALK and then embrace the Iranian Hitler is a n outrage beyond words.

Who says the Reform dont bother us?? But they dont claim to be religoius. They admit that they want to change our traditions and dont associate themselves with us at all! Nor do we with them. But they dont parade around looking like Jews!

  6. a criminal is always a criminal. since the house was insured nk must have burned it down to get a new building according to what i heard it was an old buiding

  7. Machmoud employs a familiar tactic- deflecting the evil of NK- and mixing in reform and conservative Jewry into this topic. Let’s focus only on NK in this dialogue.

NK are truly evil people. Self-appointed and annointed ‘gaurdians of the gate’- they have no Daas Torah and will not listen to any Gedoliem- not even from their own ilk.

With cogent and persuasive talk they appear to make good points- points that resonate with Orthodox Jews- especially Jews that live in the Diaspora.
I could deal with that- I’m no fan of Israeli culture or Israeli government.

But when the NK cloak themselves in Palestinian garb, and concern themselves with Sabra and Shatilla, visit the grave of Arafat, and then journey to Iran and parlay with Holocaust deniers, they cross all lines.

We need to develop a multifaceted methodology to deal with them. This should include shunning them from our businesses and not marrying with them. Only then- by totally cordoning them off from the Jewish world- can we begin to reign in these “Nut Kases.”

  8. I don’t think that one should rejoice on the misfortune of another Jew. We may not agree with Beck’s ideology, but, even if he is misguided, he acts leshem Shomayim. We don’t know how Hashem thinks of him and his deeds. Who are we to judge. Yes, better a reform or conservative temple should burn to the ground.

  9. Today’s conservative and reform are tinokois shenishbeu. They don’t know any better, and that includes their “rabbls”. Those among them who are still Jews al pi halacha are the fourth son who does not know how to ask. The NK wannabes are in the category of the second son; evildoers who support our enemies.

  10. Itzik – I agree with your first statement as a likely explanation. Your second statement is obviously true regardless of the true nature of the blaze.

  11. NK has a Torah scroll? Maybe they should try opening it up and reading it.

ביום ההוא, כרת יהוה את-אברם–ברית לאמר: לזרעך, נתתי את-הארץ הזאת, מנהר מצרים,
    עד-הנהר הגדל נהר-פרת

  12. Itzik says:
    ‘They dont know any better’
Arent Reformers aware of the fact that Orthodox Judaism is based on tradition, whereas their movement is based purely on change?
I mean I feel sorry for them but dont you think classifying them as victims of ignorance is abit of an exaggaration?

  13. basically we can conclude that
    1) NK are who we refer to in “ve’lamalshinim” where we ask Hashem to destroy those who want to harm and be malshim klal yisrael
    2) the reform and conservative communities grew up that way and ou can’t blame them for goodness sakes the reform movement was in 1850 and the conservative movement was in 1888 so this means the people to blame namely mendelson have long since died. today many of the Reform and conservative rabbis can also be blamed (unfortunately there are many reform and conservative rabbis that have orthodox smicha..) especially those who perform interfaith marriages…

  14. Nameless, you are confusing the early Reformers with today’s Reform shul membership and even “rabbinate”. Today’s attendees at a Reform shul have no idea what Reform stands for, and neither do those who run HUC. Some are there for social reasons; others like the “New Age” pick and choose atmosphere, and the bulk just go to the local “tembel” three times a year or less because it is the closest or has the cheapest tickets for “High Holiday” services.

They are completely lacking Jewish knowledge, and our challenge is to bring them back before they are lost altogether or have families that are halachically not Jewish.

  15. Aron Huber, I read your comment about the nk reading the sefer torah that they have. I believe this touches on a very important point: They are a cult. They, like other cults are well versed in their beliefs. They write books, give shiurim etc. They are not going to dismantle because you showed them a posuk that they were unfamiliar with. Experts need to methodically destroy their claims as one would do with a Jew who fell into the hands of any false cult. Unfortunately I don’t know many people who are up to this task.

  16. The odd part of all the commentators on YW criticizing NK, is that they propose solutions that our Rabbonim, Chochomim, and Daas Torah didn’t propose. They hold themselves smarter and more worthy of determining problems and finding solutions for what our Rabbonim, Chochomim, and Daas Torah didn’t.

If your comment is in line with our Rabbonim, Chochomim, and Daas Torah, simply quote your source, instead of coming out with your own “daas torah.”

  17. to basmelch: arabs when they blow up little children are also leshem shamaim. i know that in semenary they dont teach that evil people exist but get with reality they do. more so throughout the ages jews have been persecuted by people leshem shamaim. and if they are yidden so what reshaim go to gehnam and dont me melamid zechus on them.

  18. Nameles says
“oFCOURS ITS MORE DISGUSTING FOR Mr. Friedman to attend a rally in Berlin on Shabbos, mingling and sypathizing with our enemies.
the of course is questionable, since when is the reform who mix with nonjews in marriage ruining our religion & our future- isn’t it an interesting thing that only fourteen million jews are on this world compared to 1.3 billion by arabs & 1.1 billion by christians, although we were persecuted why is the number so much smaller- only 1%, also the people they befriend are also haters of ours just nowadays with democracy it’s not like this & can’t do it publicly or in literature, but the gemoro says they hate us.
the difference is that by associating with the arabs show that it’s not worth being good to the jews which is a problem.
but is dressing up as orthodox a reason to burn them & to make fun of them all day, remmember they are no more hated than reform & just as if you were invited to a party & a reform person was sitting there you would grin & bare it because on has to act civil, so too with a nk one has to act civil.
(never fear: i am also against nk as much as you, but i think that the hatred to them with action is more out of modernkeit than out of frumkeit of listening to the rabbonim , more the rabbonim are a teirutz to be allowed to harass them.

  19. I have to tell you, I was shocked to read this story. In a million years, I would have never dreamed that these clowns had Sifrei Torah in their Temple.

Well I guess you learn something new everyday.

  20. I live near the ex-Beck house. Out of curiosity, I read his books in the original Hebrew. He groups all “Agudist” (read: non-Neturei-Karta) Rabbanim as having “apikorsis” ideas. He met with Arab “leaders” (read: terrorists) and there, explained the idea that all Jews living in Medinas Israel are participating in the rebellion again the Jewish G-d. In the Arab’s mind, they don’t differentiate between Mizrachi, Augudist, Eidah, secular: If (Has VeShalom) they learn the lesson from the NK, they will think that all Jews in Israel are sinners and have a right to be destroyed. Therefore, Beck and his lot are “Moserim” (Passing Jews to the non-Jewish gov’t). (see Shulchan Aruch YD on these laws). Although he himself did not go to iIran, in any case he is the “spiritual leader” (read: guru) of these folk. Please read the NK website for proof of what I said.
