Russia: Synagogue defiled in Voronezh


Unidentified persons have painted extremist slogans and fascist swastikas on the walls of the synagogue in Voronezh on Motzei Shabbos, senior assistant to the regional prosecutor Mikhail Usov has informed Interfax News Agency.

An investigative force came to the scene, including an investigator, interior ministry operational officers and the district prosecutor. They were led by the first deputy prosecutor for the region, Nikolay Tretyakov.

The prosecutor has instituted legal proceedings under Criminal Code Article 214, Part 1 on vandalism and Article 280, Part 1 on public calls to extremist actions.

Usov also said that suspects of the desecration of the Jewish cemetery, in which 20 gravestones were felled on March 6, had been detained in Voronezh. For that case, the district prosecutor’s office had instituted legal proceedings under Criminal Code Article 244 on outrage upon dead bodies and their burial places.
