YW would like to remind everyone who lives in the Tri-state area to please use extreme caution while driving (due to the winter-storm of snow and ice). There have been many accidents reported throughout the area. (Some snow pics from around town HERE)

It has also snowed cross Canada. People there should be careful too.
Anyone know if it’s a good idea to drive to Toronto from NY on Thursday for Shabbos??
easy driving on the Chermon also, there is snow there
It makes sense that all DRIVER EDUCATION classes in Brooklyn were cancelled, these are not driving conditions for experienced drivers certainly not for novice beginners. Remember to shovel in front of your homes, shuls and businesses.
thank you
Toronto should be cleared by then, as long as there are no additional snow storms happening.
iz it ok from bp to fb
and the stupid NYC still puts allternet side parking rules in affect.
some people on my block got tickets for allternet side, i told them they should dispute them. 311 says since thiers not enough snow they are still sending the street cleaners out???
What is allternet? Is that a version of the internet for old people? 😉
I want to also remind all you people out there to shovel your snow and clean your walks. Inzer neighborhoods become a major chilul HaSh-m during this time.
Snow left by your property in a way that people can’t walk, or in a way that people will/ could fall and get hurt, is a Bor Birshus Horabim.
You may know all of Bova Kamah with all of the Miforshim, but if you leave your property in a dangerous way, you have not learned anything!!!
Susshow:
Last I checked, a Bor Bershus Horabim MUST be placed there by someone.
Not removing snow, while a terrible Chillul Hashem – and probably a serious Aveira should one Chas V’shalom get hurt – is NOT a Bor Bershus Horabim.
“Last I checked, a Bor Bershus Horabim MUST be placed there by someone.”
Really? So if a groundhog digs a huge ten-tefach hole in reshus harabim, it’s not a bor? Of course it is! What you mean is that you can’t be held liable for a bor that you didn’t place there.
Y.W. Editor,
Not removing snow, is a bor Bershus horabim. this is not my Chidush. This is the Chidush of Harav avigdor Miller Z’l.
I rememeber clearly that he complained about a certain person ,who he knew very well, who had given many Shiurim on Bovah Kamah, who did not shovel. he called it a Bor Bershus Harabim. I do admit to you, Y.W. Editor, that in Lomdus, you are probably right. Technically, it robably is not a Bor, but to illustrate the point, he called it that.
You may also argue, y.W. editor, that the area in front of your house in not , a reshus Horabim, but a Karmalis, or a Rishus Hayochid……
A Bor MUST be dug or uncovered in order for it to be a Bor Birshus Horabim.
Period.
I ‘m not sure you understand my explination of Rabbi Miller Z’l. You should listen to the tape, Y.W. Editor. Sorry.
according to Rav Yisroel Miller of Pittsburgh PA., It falls into the category of making a fence around your roof. the logic is that the posuk says “… don’t bring blood upon your house, for one who falls will fall from it….” someone may have to fall, don’t let the fall come from you!
Source “What’s wrong with being Human?” by Rav Yisroel Miller. Parsha Ko Seitzei. The reference is on page 189 last paragraph first sentence.
typo last paragraph should read …. Parsha Ki Seitzei…
Nice to see all the paskunyaks are getting involved here in the inyan (said with a yeshivish kvetch) of shoveling snow. How about this??? Dont do it and CHV someone will sue you so bad you wont have a penny left to your name. Maybe then you will learn your lesson (without Rishonim!).
How did an article about driving safely in icy conditions slip (all pun intended) into an argument about Bor B’rshus Harabim?
Anyways, please, please, be careful out there! Just this afternoon I was driving on a 3 lane highway in the left lane when I hit black ice and lost all control of my vehicle. My van did a 360 and ended up on the right shoulder. Miracle of miracles, my van and I came out unscathed. You can be assured; I SLOWLY drove the rest of the way, not going more than 35MPH.
u should learn a lesson from that not to drive in the left lane.. i hate left laners its meant for passing not driving.. be safe all
to mark levin: and why will you get sued??? because you left your property in a dangerous position.
You may have trouble with what I am going to say next, but try and you may understand it – We, B’nai Torah are more concerned about what the halacha is, what HaShem wants of us, than we are concerned about being sued. You, on the other hand (based on your postings) are more concerned about your bank account! You didn’t say Chas V’Shalom someone will get hurt based on your negligence – you said Chas V’Shalom you will get sued – this clearly shows that your interest is not in the living but in dead Presidents lining your pockets!
Homeboy: read the posts – somebody made a statement and they may or may not be right – people commented (that’s why the board is here). perhaps if you checked YW before driving too fast in snow and icy conditions, you would not have risked your life as well as others by driving in a thoughtless and reckless manner.
mdlevine,
Derech Eretz KODMA l’Torah which seems to be something you forgot so if you are not worried about being sued then do it for that. All your learning doesnt erase Chilul HaSh-m. Not 1 blatt, not 2, NONE!
As far as your comments about being more concerned with my money, if you only knew me you would not say that. It happens to be I already thought of Halocha (it didnt take as long as you think b/c its SOOOO pashut) and there is NO DOUBT one needs to shovel their walk so people can pass without CHV getting hurt.
In a word, CHILL!
To MD Levine:”perhaps if you checked YW before driving too fast in snow and icy conditions, you would not have risked your life as well as others by driving in a thoughtless and reckless manner.” So much for being Dan Lkaf Zechus!! As it turnes out the left lane was the cleanest and I was driving below the speed limit and with the flow of traffic. I agree with Mark Levin: “CHILL”
ok ok – I’ll chill, sorry if I offended you homeboy and Levin
