Two plead guilty to paintball attack on Yeshiva

Two men pleaded guilty this week in connection with the November paintball attack on Yeshiva Me’on Hatorah, in Roosevelt NJ.

Michael Baniowski, 18, of Monroe pleaded guilty to criminal mischief for shooting more than 50 paintball rounds on Nov. 20 at the dormitory on Rochdale Avenue in Roosevelt, where Bochrim attending the Yeshiva live.

Brian Moore, 19, of Roosevelt, pleaded guilty to harassment, for returning to the scene a number of days later and shouting obscenities at the students.

Both men – who have no prior criminal records – were sentenced Tuesday to one year of unsupervised probation and 10 days of community service. They each had to pay a $350 fine. Neither of the men are permitted to return to the school or its property.

The men originally pleaded innocent in Millstone Municipal Court in December. Millstone and Roosevelt share municipal court services.

Mr. Baniowski said he “wasn’t thinking” at the time of the attacks but insisted that the incident was not religiously motivated. “If I knew it was a yeshiva, I would never have done it,” he said.

Judge Gelson also ordered the men to pay restitution for the damage done to the house by the paint-balls and to send the yeshiva a written apology. Both men also apologized in court.
