Eli came to Sinai Academy from public school in 1998. Sinai Academy, a Yeshiva high school, was founded 30 years ago for immigrants from the former USSR by the Gedolei Hador. Since then Sinai has opened its doors to other children who would otherwise be in Public School.
At first Eli knew nothing about Torah and Mitzvos and he was apprehensive about learning in a Jewish school. What if the Jewish classes were challenging? How would he juggle Jewish and secular subjects? And how would he sit through such a long school day?
Once Eli arrived at Sinai, he was pleasantly surprised! Never before did he receive so much care and attention at school. And learning Torah was enjoyable. Eli quickly got comfortable at Sinai and excelled.
Upon graduating, Eli’s Rebbeim at Sinai helped him enroll at Ohr Somayach in Eretz Yisroel, which was an unforgettable experience. When Eli returned to America, he started working but he made sure to set up a daily learning schedule.
Eli is very makpid about learning Torah every day. He is also makpid about giving ma’aser. “At Sinai,” says Eli, “they taught us the importance of ma’aser. The community cared for us and sponsored our tuitions so we can get a quality Jewish education. Now it’s our turn.”
Eli opened his own business and was successful. As time went on, he increased his ma’aser contributions to Sinai. He currently supports a Sinai student who is learning in Eretz Yisroel.
Recently, Eli pledged to match an additional $25,000 to Sinai Academy to help Sinai continue its holy work. As a result of his generosity, four additional Sinai alumni have also pledged an additional combined $75,000 for a total of $100,000 pledged!
Sinai Academy has just set up an Emergency Campaign. The building is badly in need of emergency repairs, and they desperately need to create a safe and welcoming atmosphere for potential incoming students. Phase one of the emergency repairs has been completed. Crucial Brick work and lintel replacement have been completed. Necessary pointing has been done. And new windows have been installed. Sinai needs your help to continue and complete the necessary renovations.
These five alumni are digging deep to contribute the $100,000. But they can’t do it alone. They’re asking the community to join them. They’re willing to match klal yisroel’s contributions dollar for dollar up to $100,000.
It’s “NOT” all or nothing!
Although these five alumni requested that their contributions be used to inspire the community to match their donations, they will be giving their donation regardless. These five Sinai alumni are not willing to give up that zechus.
While many Sinai alumni contribute generously throughout the year, those funds help defray the day to day costs of running the school where the tuition covers only 15% of the budget.
