Eretz Yisroel: Yeshiva Ohr David running blood drive

blood drive.jpgIn conjunction with American Friends of Magen David Adom, Yeshiva Ohr David is running an in-yeshiva blood drive. Due to the lack of blood for terror victims and R”L other accidents in Israel, the Yeshiva is affording their Talmidim the opportunity to participate in a Chesed event that will directly affect those most in need.

The Yeshiva would like to invite all parents that are visiting Eretz Yisroel to participate in this great event as well.

The blood drive will take place at the Yeshiva at: 7 Chalafta St. Katamon, Yerushalayim, this Monday January 22nd at 3PM.

  1. Kol Hakovad to the yeshiva.
Anytime a person visits Israel, blood can be donated at Sharei Zedek hospital or any Magan Dovid Adom site. Such a chesed, and a role model for our children living and learning there.

  2. I agree that it is a great thing that the Yeshiva is doing and anyone that can donate blood is doing a great mitzvah.

However, I wonder if the lack of blood is because of the terror situation or if the term it is being used like so many organizations that have jumped on the “terror” bandwagon to try and raise funds.

Don’t get me wrong, I am in 100% support of giving blood and 100% support of helping terror victims, but please do not use the “terror” line unless that is really the situation.

B’H things have been quite in E”Y (although there are still sporadic incidents) from a terror perspective and by using this form of PR, you may be jeopardizing the efforts for people that are collecting for real terror victims.

If I am worng, and the blood is trully going to terror victims, my apologies.

And remember, it is a huge mitzvah to give blood to a good old fashion surgery as well.

  3. To Sammy1:
You are probobly unaware, but almost every day their are rockets falling in E”Y
I think that classifies as E”Y still being terrorized, even though Baruch Hashem their haven”t been many injuries, and their are countless accidents every day as well, you just have to check out http://www.jpost.com, and read all the headlines every day and you’ll see why there is such a shotage of blood, besides for the fact that the blood banks are low on a general level as well

There are weekly BLOOD DRIVES in NewYork to replenish the low levels of blood in the hospital. The shelf life of BLOOD is very short-what type of question is that: Will the blood drive benefit Terror victims? Who cares anywhere, it is benefitting car accident & surgery victims, who are mainly Jewish!!

  5. I think the last two posts completely missed the point. I am in no way saying that anyone shouldn’t give blood of that the banks are not extrenely low. We certainly need every person who is in a condition to give blood to do so. That is not my point.

My point is that by throwing the “terror” line out there, when in fact that is not the reason for the low supply, diminishes the calling when R’L there is a need for terror victims. And please do not think that I am saying that we should giving blood to terror victims is more important than giving to car accident victims. All that I am saying is not to misuse the “terror” word as it is unfair to true terror victims.

And remember, please keep on giving blood!!!!!!!!!!!
