Israel: Halutz resigns

halutz.jpgIsraeli army commander Lt.-Gen. Dan Halutz, under fire for failures in last summer’s war in Lebanon, has resigned, Israel’s Defence Ministry said early Wednesday. Halutz has been under pressure to step down since the end of the 34 day war, which failed in its goals of defeating the anti-Israel militant group Hezbollah and bringing home two captured soldiers.

  1. response to Joseph who wrote “nu, trading in one zionist for another.”

“one zionist” who has devoted his adult life to the security of eretz yisroel.

Joseph – you’re dismissing with disdain of people who put their lives on the line every single day as they protect & defend our Holyland, is inappropriate (and that’s a major understatement).

    Let’s think this out:
Who is going to fight the Arabs who want to wipe us ALL out
not us – We’re sitting here in America
not the yeshivish and chasidish velt in Israel – they don’t serve in the army.

and we are not allowed to rely on miracles.

So i think you need to do some soul searching teshuva for what you wrote and work on yourself to eradicate the thoughts that brought you to make that statement.

If we don’t fight, let’s – at least – appreciate those that do, daven for their safety and thank them in whatever way we can.

  2. “one zionist” who has devoted his adult life to the security of eretz yisroel.

Oh please. He devoted his life to his own personal ambition and power search.

We are talking about a man who said last year (according to Jonathan Rosenblum – who is not known for dishonesty) that “he had no need of a Higher Power to assist him in his endeavors, and that he was perfectly happy relying on his own intelligence and determination.”

No great loss to klal Yisroel.

  3. chazal also say there shouldn’t be jewish sovereignty at this time. like was mentioned previously, the zionists created the terrible matzif today in Eretz Yisroel, with all their military and political (i.e. anti-torah) “solutions”

  4. YES, HE HAS DEVOTED HIS LIFE TO PROTECT ERETZ YISROEL.
I’M SURE THAT YOU AND YOU ILK WOULDN’T BE GOING TO MEORAS HAMACHPELA, TO KEVER ROCHEL AND TO THE KOTEL (JUST TO MENTION A FEW) IF THAT “ZIONIST” WOULDN’T BE THERE WITH HIS GUNS TO PROTECT YOU SO THAT YOU CAN GO THERE AND DAVEN, COME HOME SAFLEY AND COMPLAIN ABOUT THE ZIONISTS…

  5. “nu, trading in one zionist for another.”

Uh, huh. You’d rather they appoint a kollel yungerman as Chief of Staff. That would make sense, no?

  6. “Oh please. He devoted his life to his own personal ambition and power search.”

So what if he had personal ambitions? Who doesn’t? Bnei Torah too are not free of personal ambition. Does that mean that their mitzvos and Torah are worthless?

Whatever his intentions were (and how are we to know, really?), he was in fact “asuk” for decades with protecting Jewish lives. You have to be really small-miinded not to recognize the significance of that.

  7. Mr. Bekeshe and Norman make good points.

You can’t bite (or spit on) the hand that feeds you. Many of us have no doubt vistited holy sites in Eretz Yisroel which visits were possible only due to the efforts of the Israeli army.

You don’t like Zionists? Fine by me. But that doesn’t excuse the need to show Hakoras HaTov to the people who enable our trips to Israel for Yomim Tovim or our children’s Yeshiva stays.

  8. Thank G-D it is all over for Chalutz!! He jumped to EXPEL Gush Katif after Yalon said he will not do it!! He just wanted power and look what he did to Israel!!! He is not a Zionist I AM!!!!
