Tesla: Driving the Future

chooseraffle (2)In 2008, it was introduced to the industry. By 2015, it was voted “The Coolest Car.”

This September, it could be yours.

Ever saw a sleek car gracefully turn the corner and wonder – what is that car? And how do I get it?

If it had flat, silver door handles, a low, pleasant hum and a T-shaped emblem, chances are it was a Tesla. One of today’s most popular cars, manufactured by the world’s first successful American car startup since 1903, the year the Ford Motors Company was founded.

But what’s a Tesla? And why should you want it?

In 2003, Tesla Motors created a revolutionary sport electric car. It was fast, it was smooth, and it was fuel-efficient. Test drive a Tesla S and you’ll experience 0-60 mph in only 3.9 seconds. This puts Tesla in the category of supercars, comparing them to million dollar cars.

But that’s not all.

  • Almost 98% of Tesla S owners are proud Tesla owners, the highest auto satisfaction ratings in the industry.
  • Teslas age well, in fact, they get better with time. With automatic, over-the-air, updates, your car improves overnight!
  • Teslas don’t lose resale value with a company guarantee, and the Model S resale value is higher than the value of standard cars.

  1. And remember, we taxpayers pick up a large part of the cost of each car. The poor stiff who can barely afford a $5000 used gas guzzler to get to a job, is paying taxes so his betters can buy a fancy subsidized electric car. It’s classic corporate welfare – rob from the poor and give to the rich.

  2. Electric and Hybrid cars receive significant subsidies. Those who buy the cheaper gas cars pay tax on the car, the fancy electrics get significant subsidies (e.g. $10K of taxpayer money for each Tesla). As taxes go, it is highly regressive since it robs from the poor and gives to the rich.

  3. Now that akuperma has finished spilling his usual useless drivel…

This is a tremendous organization and is well worth our support. I’m speaking from first hand knowledge & know several families who would not have made it without them.

Whenever I do give them money I always wish it could have been more.

I generally try to support organizations within my community before supporting out of town, but this organization is truly special.

  4. No criticism of the organization is intended. Indeed, by choosing a subsidized car, they are in effect diverting about $10K of taxpayer money towards the tsadakah.

And perhaps, the future is that those who have money will get government subsidies paid for by those who don’t – something Clinton and the Trumpsters can agree on.

  5. In a more general context, a Tesla is not going to be a big seller in the frum market for several reasons. First, the seating is limited and even though they plan on rolling out a larger SUV, it will only accommodate 5 passengers comfortably which may not be sufficient for many younger familes. Secondly, the price tag (even with the subsidies) for their larger vehicles will be in the $45,000-$60,000 range which is too high for some families with tuition bills etc. On the positive side, it helps in the fight against global warming and its a wonderful choice for a raffle by a very worthwhile charitable organization.

  6. “Electric and Hybrid cars receive significant subsidies.”

The petroleum industry got much larger subsidies when it was younger and developing. We need to give much larger subsidies to electric and hybrid carmakers to balance things out.
