Two local environmental groups have filed a lawsuit challenging the California Coastal Commission approval of a plan by an Orthodox synagogue in Venice to construct an eruv several miles along the beach.
The Marina Peninsula Neighborhood Association and the Coastal Law Enforcement Action Network (CLEAN) filed the lawsuit in the California Superior Court of San Francisco against the California Coastal Commission for approving the installation of fishing wire and poles to hold the wires along beaches in Santa Monica, Venice and near the Marina del Rey entrance channel.

You may be right but we are in golus. Is this eiruv at the beach such a necessity that we have to antagonize others? L’ma’an Hashem let’s lie low and only make an eiruv when it doesn’t disturb others and when it is really a “must”.
Ditto to C. Rabinowitz.
Actually there are a number of frum yiddin that live there and would be using the eruv. dont be so quick to decide who does and doesnt need one b/c we could easily say your area doesnt need one either. as for the lawsuit, most of these are tossed out of court unless there is REALLY something wrong which there usually is not.
Oy Vey! What would we do if we couldnt’ walk the beach on Shabbos!
Eicha Yashva Badad…
They don’t need the eiruv to walk on the beach. They only need it to carry things there or take along a stroller.
I GUESS WHEN ONE USES HIS glutius maximus INSTEAD OF HIS CRANIUM, YOU GET THE ABOVE COMMENTS.
THERE HAPPENS TO BE RELIGIOUS JEWS WHO LIVE IN THAT AREA WHO HAVE YOUNG CHILDREN AND THEY REQUIRE AN ERUV FOR THEIR WIVES AND CHILDREN TO GET TO THE SHUL WHICH HAPPENS TO BE LOCATED ON A SMALL STREET/WALKWAY THAT FACES THE PACIFIC OCEAN.
THERE IS VERY LITTLE REASON TO OBJECT TO THIS ERUV AND THE MINOR PROBLEMS OR OBJECTIONS CAN BE ACCOMODATED OR RECTIFIED.
AS USUAL, THOSE PROTESTING ARE LOOKING TO SQUASH ANYTHING DONE BY OR FOR JEWS.
“antagonize others?”
DON’T YOU REALIZE THAT YOUR EXSISTENCE AS A JEW ATAGONIZES THE REST OF THE WORLD AND THE ONLY WAY YOU WILL NOT “ATAGONIZES ” OTHERS, IS WHEN YOU, I AND G-D FORBID ALL THE JEWS NO LONGER EXSIST!
“they don’t hate jews they are environmental wackos”
Actually, in this situation you are right.
I just wanted to add that we as a people and as individuals should not allow anyone to antagonize us.
The people asking for the eruv constitute a tiny community trying to live the good life near the beach. There are no kosher markets or schools nearby. Most of the families have been there for more than 15 years without an eruv.
They have staked out an area much larger than their members live in.

The people in that community have been trying to procure an eruv for almost 20 years. Their members reside wherever housing is available and they walk to the shul on the Venice Boardwalk even though they own a building closer to where many of them live. They do that in order to maintain the historical building and to continue the shul’s legacy and kiruv success in the beach area. The shul has had a tumultous past, but is today a thriving entity directed by a very capable Rabbi. In my opinion, it is unreasonable and inappropriate to scorn them with unwarranted, uninformed and non-constructive negative comments.
