Mayor Ken Livingstone hailed the Jewish Community’s “enormous” contribution to London life as he launched a new report on Jewish life in the capital.
‘The Jewish Population in London’, which is based on information from the 2001 census, was commissioned to coincide with the 350th anniversary of the community’s return to Britain.
It shows that there are nearly 150,000 Jews living in London – accounting for two percent of the capital’s inhabitants and around 58 percent of Britain’s Jewish population.
The Mayor said: “Many Jewish people first made their homes in this country in London and many of the most significant moments in British Jewish history have occurred in our city.
“Jewish Londoners have made a powerful contribution to the city in fields as varied as science, culture, business and the arts and the Jewish contribution to London has been enormous.”
He said the report would be used to ensure “that the specific needs and concerns of Jewish Londoners are understood and responded to”.
Meanwhile, the Mayor’s Office has published its third Guide to Jewish London, featuring details of a range of events and activities across the capital until March 2007.

Susshow, have you not read up or heard about Livingstone’s previous behaviors and remarks with regard to Jews? He is notorious for the anti-Semitic statements he’s made. Wouldn’t you then suspect any reports or remarks he now makes denoting praise of Jews?
