Kiryas Joel BB-gunners thrown in the slammer

They didn’t shoot an eye out, but two BB-gunners caused enough damage to land in Orange County Jail on felony charges. Police said Hector Rojas, 22, and Matthew Santiago, 17, went on a BB gun drive-by blitz Sunday, shooting out car windows from Woodbury to Monroe to Kiryas Joel.

The duo managed to shoot at the windows and windshields of at least seven cars. Rojas and Santiago told police they spent the day hitting targets at random.

Rojas, of Washingtonville, and Santiago, of Highland Mills, were charged Sunday by Woodbury police with six counts each of third-degree criminal mischief, a felony. A third man in the car with them was released and is not facing charges.

State police also leveled additional charges — one count each of third-degree criminal mischief, a felony, and second-degree reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor. While the two drove through Kiryas Joel, they struck the windows of a car as a father and daughter were getting inside, state police said.

Rojas and Santiago are held on $10,000 bail each.

  1. Besides a slap on the wrist, you mean? Well, their synagogue membership will be suspended for a few days, they will be told to eat some bagels to share in the “multi-cultural acceptance experience,” that sort of the thing. What do you expect? REAL punishment? That’s a laugh!
