A Court of Appeals in Argentina required a Buenos Aires resident to pay $11,500 (35,000 Pesos) to a Jewish couple, to whom she refused to rent an apartment because they were Jewish.

In 2001, a lawyer agreed to rent an apartment in Buenos Aires to a couple, but withdrew the offer after she realized their names were Jewish names. The Jewish couple was amazed at the racist demonstration and how the apartment owner was not ashamed to tell them that she would not rent to Jews, Chinese, Koreans or “others”.

The couple decided to teach the woman a lesson and sue her for religious and racial discrimination. The case was postponed but the couple would not give up and contested the postponement in a higher court. Five years later, the couple won their case and the court awarded them compensation for the moral damage caused them.
