The Jewish community in Krasnodar has failed to recover the old building of the former synagogue, which houses a Communist Party of Russian Federation headquarters today.
‘A few years ago we tried to get the old building of the synagogue transferred to the community. But we failed’, the chairman of the community, Yuri Teitelbaum, has reported to Interfax-South on Tuesday.
He said at present the synagogue is housed in a rented private house in down town Krasnodar. Recently the Jewish community appealed to the city administration to allocate a plot of land for building a new synagogue.
‘We have obtained a consent in principle from the authorities and now are waiting for the formal procedures to be completed. We claim a small site down town’, Teitelbaum said.
He has also informed that there are 10 thousand Jews in Krasnodar.
