In a frightful statement, Israel Police Sgt. Yossi Malka explained that when he and his colleagues worked on motzei Shabbos to neutralize the car bomb in the Haifa Cinemall, they had many fears due to the size of the explosives.

Malka explained the explosives were extremely powerful, equivalent to “10-15 suicide bombers”, adding if they would have detonated as planned, there was enough explosive materials to collapse the three-story mall, not to mention the metallic balls and shrapnel contained in the bombs – intended to maximize the carnage to the victims of the intended attack.

Police closed the mall and bomb-demolition teams worked for hours, under considerable risk, to neutralize the powerful explosives. Baruch Hashem, they succeeded in their mission without incident, permitting the reopening of the mall during the morning hours.

While mall security officials attempt to shirk accusations of failure, police are investigating how the Subaru containing about 100 lbs of explosives managed to enter the parking area undetected since inspections are expected of every vehicle entering, including visualizing the contents of a trunk.
