A fixed winged aircraft has struck a 50 story apartment building located at 524 East 72nd Street @ York Avenue in Manhattan. There are numerous reports of people being trapped on the upper floors. FDNY has called a 4th Alarm & NYPD has called a Level 3. NYPD has secured the area with heavy weapons & have deployed the airbags on the ground around the premises. FDNY is reporting at 3:36 pm that the fire is “P/W/H” (probably will hold), with most of the fire being extinguished by the internal sprinkler system. NYPD is confirming two fatalities, and are searching the East River for pieces of the airplane. The US air force has also scrambled fighter jets as a precaution.–YW Editor.

FAA is confirming that the aircraft originated from Teterboro Airport.
Let’s hope everyone is ok! It brings bad memories though… Anyway, I do hope that New Yorkers are more precautious now. It’s incredible how being proactive and carrying a simple Breath of Life emergency escape mask can save your life in a situation like this.
Just a terrible tragedy. Pilot was a major league pitcher – some of these planes are not mechanically reliable, but terrorism seems pretty doubtful at this point.
