When El Al maintenance workers ran the engines of one of the airline’s aircraft yesterday afternoon at Ben Gurion airport as part of a routine check, the plane suddenly released its brakes and smashed into vehicles parked near the hangars. Fortunately, no one was hurt, although damage was done to property. The company has appointed staff to investigate the incident.
Usually such engine checks are carried out in an isolated area in the airport, near to one of the hangars. This was also done this time, and as usual, special brakes were activated to prevent the plane from actually moving. However, the plane somehow freed itself and started to fly, hitting the cars and causing damage to the nearby hangar.
