There were no empty seats in the spacious amphitheater last Wednesday evening. Many of those present were Orthodox Jews. The Rosh Yeshiva, Rav Ahron Kaufman, stood up to address the overflowing crowd, “Family values and strong dedication to religious morals are what Waterbury stands for. They are also what a Mikvah stands for. I am confident that the variance will be passed unanimously and without reservation.? Just one month ago, the Zoning Board ruled that the Jewish community in Waterbury could not build a Mikvah in the small home that was purchased for this purpose. There was much misunderstanding in the local government as to the nature of a Mikvah. But through the appeals process, the Yeshiva was granted a second chance to plead its case this week. Through tremendous Siyata Dishmaya, the Zoning Board retracted its original decision, and ruled in favor of the Mikvah.–YW Editor.
