Norway – Sharp reactions to yesterdays shooting attack

An attack on Norway’s main Jewish Shul drew sharp reactions Monday, and a leading Lutheran bishop urged Norwegians to rally around the country’s tiny Jewish community.

In a statement, the Oslo bishop of the state Church of Norway, Ole Christian Kvarme, appealed to the overwhelmingly Lutheran population of Norway to watch over the Jewish community.
“This is a situation in which we must raise the barricades against all types of anti-Semitism,” Kvarme said. “This is the first time shots have been fired at a house of God in Norway.”

The Islamic Council in Norway also condemned the attack in a letter to the synagogue and expressed “sympathy to our Jewish friends”.
