Israel: Heightened Security in Racially Mixed Areas

Following a violent Yom Kippur in Akko, police on erev Shabbos have moved to a heightened operational status in a number of other mixed areas in which Jews and Arab reside.

Special attention is being focused on Yerushalayim and the Old City. Police reinforcements are being moved into the Old City and other areas of the capital in the hope of avoiding a spread of the racial riots to other areas of the country.

A large police contingent remains on hand in Akko as well to prevent a resumption of the rioting.

MK (Yisrael Beitenu) Avigdor Lieberman stated on motzei Yom Kippur that the rioting in Akko to him signals the “start of the Third Intifada in the heart of Israel”. On the other side of the political spectrum, Arab MK Dr. Ahmad Tibi referred to the violence as a “pogrom” against Arabs by Jews. (Yechiel Spira – YWN Israel)

  1. They are not “racially” mixed. The Arabs, especially the Palestinians, are the same race as the Israelis, no matter how “politically incorrect” that is for either of us. Even on a DNA level, it appears that Ashkenazim are closer to the Palestinians than to any group of non-middle eastern goyim (except for the Kurds, perhaps). The middle east conflict may be about ethnicity or religion or culture (and many would say, about dimei mamonos), but it isn’t about race.
