WBIR: More than 1,000 people filled a synagogue for the funeral of 58 year old Pam Waechter, who died in Friday’s shooting at a Jewish center in Seattle.Police arrested one man for disorderly conduct as mourners arrived. A police spokesman says he was yelling, so officers took him away quickly. The spokesman didn’t know what the man was yelling.
Friday’s attack, in which five other women were wounded, has prompted heightened security at synagogues and Jewish centers nationwide.
Waechter was a Jewish convert who served for several years as president of her local synagogue.
The alleged gunman, Naveed Afzal Haq, is a 30 year old Muslim-American who allegedly said that he was angered by the war in Iraq and U.S. military cooperation with Israel.
His parents have released a statement extending condolences to the victims and calling the attack a “senseless act” that was “utterly contrary” to their “Islamic values.”
