Israel’s Chief Rabbis Yona Metzger and Shlomo Amar ruled that soldiers fighting in Lebanon are exempt from the fast on Tisha B’Av. “Soldiers in combat are exempted from fasting on Tisha B’Av because the fast disrupts their ability to fight and this could save their or their colleagues lives,” the rabbis said in a statement.
